It's a simple fact: girls and young women enjoy pageants, and the Miss El Dorado and Miss Teen El Dorado scholarship competition is a way to garner money for college and to gain self-confidence.
For this reason, many local organizations and businesses lend their help to sponsor both the pageant and the young women who choose to compete.
The El Dorado County Fair is a major sponsor of the scholarship competition. Folsom Lake College, whose local campus is the El Dorado Center, is a great supporter of the scholarship pageant. In fact, President Dale van Dam spoke very graciously at the pageant, congratulating and encouraging the young women in their endeavors.
Local business sponsors include Hanson McClain Financial Advisors and Annamiek Storm, Long Term Care Insurance. In addition, each candidate was required to find their own sponsors, an activity which helps them to reach their goals. Sponsors were heartfully thanked by each of the young women during the communication segment of the pageant.
The El Dorado Scholarship Program also offers a Princess Apprentice Program for a limited number of young ladies (ages 5 through 12) who have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of being part of the Miss El Dorado family. The fair has invited potential Princess Apprentices to attend the pageant free of charge at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds at 2 p.m. on Sunday when in the company of a paid adult admission.
For information on the Princess program call the fairgrounds at 530-621-5860.
