CALIFORNIA'S OLDEST NEWSPAPER - EST. 1851
Volume 162 · Issue 73 | 99¢

Horoscope, Monday, October 1, 2012

The void-of-course moon likes the idea of afternoon napping, languorous conversations, long strolls and unending tangents. The other planets offer little argument. “What’s the rush?” they say. If you’re not enjoying yourself, at least dream of how you might. As long as things are moving slowly, you may as well be enjoying yourself in kind.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). What some people consider a privilege, others consider a right. People are likely to disagree about this now. You’ve seen different sides to life and can shed some wisdom on the matter.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The moon forms a positive angle to your guiding planet this afternoon, casting a rosy glow on your accomplishments and highlighting the sparkle of your personality.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You are quick on your feet and will work in a pinch today. But overall, you need a plan. Improvisation works best when it follows certain guidelines. Within those guidelines, your improvisations will be freer and more brilliant.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Friendship is discovery. By interacting with others, you get closer to who you really are. You’ll be surprised by this process today. You’ll enjoy relating to someone with whom you didn’t think you had much in common.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You very much enjoy it when everyone respects personal boundaries and remains in the realm of his or her own business. And yet, there are times when true friends have to intervene. It’s the right thing to do.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You don’t want an easy life. You want to be strong so that you can help others. You sometimes have to remind yourself of this, especially on a busy day like this when it’s so tempting to slack.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). In excellent communication, both the giver and the receiver of information have responsibilities. Make sure another person understands your message and knows what’s expected from here on out.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You’ve sparked someone’s interest, and now you’ll have the opportunity to sell yourself in person with a face-to-face meeting. This will go well, as long as you show up early and come prepared.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Many of your competitors are likely to skip the formalities of etiquette. That’s why sending a thank-you card or knowing the proper way to make introductions will help you stand out.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Communication is the answer. A misunderstanding will get blown out of proportion unless you talk about it. You might not come to terms about the issue, but you’ll keep it from getting worse.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Others will make an effort to keep you under their radar. Of course, this is a compliment. Nosy questions may be a side effect, which you’ll field with your usual good humor.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). It’s not what you know about yourself that will matter most now, but what you know about the other people involved in your scene, especially the higher-ups. Do research, and you’ll be impressive.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 1). A network of supportive friends and family is part of the reason you’ll be so healthy and full of life this year. This month affirms your sense of control. In November, earning respect and money will be a simple, logical cause-and-effect equation. December brings laughter and excitement. An investment pays in August. Pisces and Leo people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 20, 50, 11 and 48.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: “What do you have to say to a person who wants to get into the healing arts? I’m a Cancer, and I would like to be able to help people, especially my parents, who are elderly.”

Cancer is a highly empathetic water sign, and healing is a natural extension of your gift. You have a rainbow of options, including the traditional direction of pursuing a medical degree, learning physical therapy or dealing in the emotional and mental realms. I’m sure you’re aware that there are many types of energy work focused on healing, too. Chakra and Reiki healing has to do with clearing and balancing the energy centers. Faith healing brings in the energy of a higher power. Acupuncture and herbal medicine are also options. The effectiveness of these less traditional methods may have more to do with the beliefs of the healer and the patient. No one can tell you which way is best for you. It’s something you feel in your heart; the right method resonates with you. Also, don’t discount the power of your love. Sometimes the best healers are the ones who simply bring chicken soup and sit bedside with a comforting smile.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Zach Galifianakis is now so famous that his name is in the lyrics of a pop song by Hot Chelle Rae. The Libran comedian refuses to let fame go to his head, though. His sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus are all in Libra, the sign of art and also the sign of partnerships. Surrounding himself with grounded people is a key success secret for the actor, who is now busy filming “The Hangover 3.”
