New Moon and Solar Eclipse

From Shakespeare to Hitchcock, the best storytellers play to the imagination by leaving some of the more intense scenes off stage. Similarly, the new moon and the solar eclipse in secretive Scorpio reminds us that unseen power is greater than observed power. If there’s something you want to change, start now under these intense skies.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Avoiding attention snags is easier if you have a goal. It also helps that you know yourself well. You have absolutely zero interest in certain topics, so don’t even bother pretending to engage them. Close the door.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Normalcy doesn’t come easily to everyone. You may not realize just how much energy someone is putting into presenting a good front. Your compassion will help to ease this person’s mind.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Some of the people around you are more sensitive than you think they are. Be careful what you choose to laugh at. Laughter can bond people, or it can tear people down.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Be observant. People around you need this from you because no one else sees things quite like you. In your lifetime, you’ll have the kind of insights that can change the world.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Scientists are starting to see a correlation between social anxiety and technology. Remember, the best connections are unplugged. Don’t let technology dictate your social life or impede your ability to connect.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You don’t want to understand a job; you want to master it. That’s why you’ll explore the inner workings and practice until you know for certain that you’re as good as you can be.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Great people are strong people — and not strong on the outside necessarily, but strong on the inside. To build up your inner strength, stick to a job until it’s done.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You will set out to have one kind of day and wind up on a journey entirely different from the one you had planned. Intriguing findings will be the highlight. This is just the beginning.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). If a picture is worth a thousand words, a touch is worth 100,000 pictures. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to make a physical connection. Your loved ones need it, and so do you.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Making a mistake once is only natural and good. How else are you supposed to figure out what to do? You don’t want to make the same mistake twice, though, so stay aware.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). A conversation that seems to have gone wrong will actually produce interesting and helpful results. Hang in there through the rough patches. Keep trying to understand what’s going on at the deeper levels.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Being in control of your body is one way of showing the world that you’re in control of your life. Your willpower will be strong in the morning, so take advantage of this with excellent self-care in the a.m.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Nov. 3). Love in many forms is the theme. Friends and romance are the focus now, and a new animal comes into your life in December. January is your chance to progress professionally, so don’t hold back. In May, you’ll go where the scenery is lush. Make lifestyle upgrades with the financial bonus you get in June. Aquarius and Sagittarius people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 10, 3, 22 and 5.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: Ancient people tended not to be amused by eclipses. Did a dragon just eat the sun? Is it ever coming back? Quick, drop a few humans into that volcano to appease the gods! To be fair, it’s easy to imagine why the sun disappearing from the sky for any amount of time could be considered an extremely bad omen.

We think of it differently these days, which is why today, with its new moon in Scorpio and total solar eclipse, is by and large one of the luckiest days we’ve seen in the past few weeks. Scorpio, often symbolized by the phoenix, is the sign of transformation. The sun echoes the magical bird theme as he disappears and then suddenly is reborn on the other side of the new moon. If you know where you’d like to focus this intense makeover energy, you can create some magical results. Is there something in your life that needs changing? Do it now, and the process will be swift and complete.

Love goddess Venus enters Capricorn on November 5, giving a cool tone to relationships. It’s good news if you like to avoid messy, out-of-control, highly emotional relationships. While passions are contained, practicalities will get handled.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Model and Kardashian sister Kendall Jenner turns 18 today under intense Scorpio skies. The new moon on her birthday is a strong indicator of a transformational year. Jenner was born under a nurturing Cancer moon. Water-sign energy flowing through her chart suggests a highly intuitive nature. Her Venus and Mars in Libra, the sign of partnership, shows she prefers relationships to the single life.
