Mercury Enters Taurus

Mercury in Aries has been something like listening to an audio book sped up by 1.5 times the recorded pace: The story comes faster. You still get the details, but there’s no time to answer back with your mind’s voice or relax into the emotion of it. Mercury now enters slower Taurus, giving us a chance to mentally respond at our own pace.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Good stories need conflict, and heroes need an enemy. As you’re a lover and not a fighter, you’ll be more comfortable with an impersonal enemy like weather, the elements or the evils of society at large.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You’ll live simply and freely following these rules: 1. Don’t acquire what you don’t need. 2. Purge possessions periodically. 3. Have a place for things, and keep things in their place.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You’ve heard hundreds of times that life isn’t fair, but today will bring evidence to the contrary. Your favorite kind of justice will be dealt — and that’s poetic justice!

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Each of your projects has a beginning, a middle and an end, though not necessarily in that order. Today you’ll start and stop in odd places, but like a cleverly edited movie, it all works out before the credits roll.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You’ll meet someone who likes what you like. It’s a significant connection for many reasons, not the least of which is that your shared common interest is relatively rare.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Ideally, you strive to unselfconsciously make connections and remain considerate of the feelings of others. When you’re not this way, you haven’t failed — it’s all part of a learning process.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Touch base physically if possible. The exchange of ideas and information will go smoothly and will be far more helpful in face-to-face encounters. No matter how hard you try to give, you’ll be on the receiving end.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Meetings and forums are part of the action. You realize how hard it is for the person in charge, and so you give full attention and empathy to that person, who may in turn lean on you for support.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Trying to get through to a certain emotionally distant person is like grasping at wind. Instead, get comfortable with yourself, and the contentment you feel will warm everyone around you.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Your participation in groups may be minimal, but in a short amount of time, you’ll still manage to inspire others to take action. You won’t have to tell anyone what to do. You’ll do it yourself and make it look cool.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Socializing is a game, and in this game, status is both a choice and a strategy. There are many benefits to adopting both the high and low status positions, so choose carefully.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You’ll get the chance to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise. Seize the chance only if you really feel ready. Being ready will entail knowing the order in which you’ll do things and having at least some of it memorized.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (April 23). Because you’re open-minded and guided by sublime intuition, you’ll experience a change you didn’t anticipate or necessarily want, and yet it will improve your life in many ways. June brings the revival of a dream or relationship. August makes you work and pays you well, too. You’ll be a mentor in September. Cancer and Gemini people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 40, 3, 11, 28 and 33.

COSMIC ANXIETY ALERT (PART THREE): For those who are sensitive to tense vibrations, the current cosmic weather may trigger extra nervousness and negative stress. If you feel anxiety creeping in, do not try to muscle through it. Instead, be kind and gentle with yourself as you react quickly, helping yourself to calm down. Monday and Tuesday featured stress-reducing exercises, and here’s another one to try:

SENSORY FOCAL POINT: Find a focal point in the moment, and observe it through the lens of each of your senses. For instance, if you find yourself freaking out while stuck in traffic, an immediate focal point might be your interior car environment. Bring your attention to the textured feel of the sturdy wheel in your hands. Notice the color gradations around you and, through your window, the sounds of humanity and the unique taste and smell of your earthly location. Know that this moment is somehow unlike any other that ever has been or ever will be. Consider that anxiety is usually occurring in some projected, distant reality of your mind’s making. Any one of your senses can provide a way back to the serenity there is to be found in the present moment.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: This year we mourn the passing of the world’s biggest little movie star Shirley Temple, a Taurus who tap-danced into the hearts of millions and brought hope and entertainment during an extraordinarily tough and war-torn time in history. Curly-topped Temple had four natal luminaries in Aries, the sign of youth, vitality and the warrior spirit. Her Neptune, the dream planet, was in entertaining Leo.
