New Moon Pre-Show

The upcoming new moon will be a “Supermoon” with the closest approach to the earth on its elliptical orbit and with a larger-than-usual appearance to prove it. However, when the moon is as dark as it is now, are such things really noticeable? Yes, in the swollen tides, and perhaps in our swollen feelings of anticipation for the future.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You will not find it natural and easy to fully express love to others unless you love yourself wholeheartedly. Don’t worry: The love is not going to run out if you spend a lot of love on yourself. It’s a renewable resource.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Sometimes, you do wonder if you would be friends with a certain person had you met under different circumstances. However, the history stands as it does and now, it’s your turn to write the next chapter of this relationship.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Happiness and busy hands are related today, and you’ll keep your skilled hands in the work that feeds your family and your soul. Your best partners for work are Sagittarius and Aquarius.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You will experience the equivalent to an irritating humming noise in your life. This is not what it seems to be; rather it is a test of your patience and your ability to stay even-tempered.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). It is difficult to understand the traffic rules of roundabouts if you don’t live in a place such circular roads exist. Similarly, you’ll have to forgive those who don’t understand the specialized circumstance you’re navigating now.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). In social discourse, no one needs a realist and it’s unnecessary to stick within the limits of absolute truth while praising the appearance, abilities and potential of others.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). People will try to pigeonhole your identity, only so they understand how to best relate to you. If you don’t like the way they are “casting” you, change your role now or you’ll have to keep playing it for months to come.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). A technique you might use to forge friendly bonds is to praise something unique a person has done. In doing so, you will raise this person’s opinion of you and quickly bond as part of the same team.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Would you rather be in familiar circumstances where you feel a sense of belonging or be in what’s considered a privileged position but feel totally out of place? In some way, today’s situation answers this.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). The work of the day won’t seem, to the casual observer, particularly challenging. And yet, you’ll love the opportunity for personal development inside the tasks at hand.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You live in a different world from the one your parents grew up in. Look beyond the narrow definition of relationships provided by family history. The future is approached with an open mind.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You radiate charisma now so don’t be surprised when people form an affectionate attachment to you. One particular relationship will take a deeper dimension.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Jan. 29). It’s not your job to make everyone happy, but you’ll often take on that challenge, and it’s what moves you from one success to the next. Giving more than the usual effort and a deeper level of caring will improve your environment and inspire others. A windfall in May helps you continue a meaningful endeavor. Gemini and Aries adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 3, 22, 14, 39 and 50.

SCORPIO SECRET SUPER POWER BREAK DOWN:

The Obvious: As the sign of life, death and change, Scorpio is uniquely equipped to accept and face what other people are afraid of. This is the sign that cuts to the quick, separating the drama from reality, and the essential from the superfluous. Scorpios inspire others to be the heroes of their own lives.

The Uncanny: Scorpios are living lie detectors. They sense how others are thinking and feeling, and it’s very difficult to get anything over on them. They detect split-second microexpressions with the accuracy of slow-motion playback.

The Weird: Scorpios can weave twisted tales from the tops of their imaginations that will stick with their audience for months and even years. Their stories are often more memorable because they are not preoccupied with relaying what’s “acceptable” and “normal.”

The Extremely Useful: Scorpios make excellent delegators as they can honestly and quickly assess people’s strengths and assign them to the right job without worrying too much about the possibility of hurt egos.

The Quietly Helpful: Scorpios have a special relationship with the truth in that they can always see the beauty in it.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Oprah Winfrey’s last landmark birthday was a star-studded, televised event. She danced with John Travolta, and Jay Leno presented her with a 400-pound banana cake. This year, Winfrey turns 60 on the night before the new moon, which is also a “Black Moon” and a “Supermoon.” The astrological implications are that this is a turning point, and Winfrey will launch fresh adventures in 2014.
