The Aug. 1 article “Supes delay petition” inaccurately describes Mark Smith’s remarks to the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on July 29. Smith, from Garden Valley, was depicted as accusing supervisors of threatening the county with economic collapse and loss of supervisors’ discretionary power if the “Reinstate Measure Y Initiative” were to be passed by voters in November. Reviewing the video of that meeting, it is clear Smith is referring to Bill Center and Jim Moore and not the Board of Supervisors. Proponents of a competing initiative, Measure M, Center and Moore, strongly urged the board to order a 30-day study of potential economic impacts from possible passage of the “Reinstate Measure Y Initiative.” Supervisors eventually took that action which, due to state election deadlines, resulted in postponing the initiative until the June 2016 election.
