SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — A preliminary investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has found a Placerville woman who fell from the Horizon Casino Resort Friday killed herself, according to a Tuesday statement from Sgt. Jim Halsey.

Loretta Sangara, 68, died after falling from a 14th floor balcony about 10 a.m. July 1.

“While the investigation is ongoing, preliminary findings indicate Sangara’s fall was an intentional act of suicide,” Halsey said. “Investigators with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have determine that Sangara, who suffered from medical problems, made elaborate arrangements with friends and family members regarding the disposition of her estate and funeral arrangements, and appears to have been planning to commit suicide for some time.”

An autopsy has been conducted by the Washoe County Coroner’s Office. Investigators are awaiting the results of the autopsy and a toxicological examination before making a final determination of death, Halsey said.
