Academic Talent Search looking for students
California State University, Sacramento’s Academic Talent Search, a summer program that offers a motivational scholastic environment for fourth- through ninth-graders, is providing information to prospective attendees and their parents.
A choice of Saturday-morning exams is offered on campus: Feb. 25, March 3 and March 17. Sign-ups may be done by phone, with a $15 registration fee payable at the time of testing.
In the ATS program, students from the greater Sacramento region attend summer classes on campus so they can learn while sampling university life. Parents of previous participants confirm that the enrichment, coursework and collegiate environment help the students develop self-confidence and independence.
The program is particularly beneficial to underrepresented students because it presents college as an attainable goal.
Although sponsored by the university, ATS is a self-supporting program that receives no federal or state funding. The program is committed to ensuring that no student is deprived of the opportunity for academic excellence, and it makes available financial aid scholarships to students each summer.
Since its founding in 1982, ATS has provided instruction to more than 37,000 academically talented young scholars. Many of these students have gone on to achieve great success in college and in their chosen careers.
