LT. COL. PETER WEBER JR, USAF retired, takes off from the Placerville Airport in a plane he rented for his birthday flight. The 93-year-old rented a Cessna 172 and took it out Nov. 7. Weber, who served 30 years in the Air Force, flew P-38s during WWII in the South Pacific and AC 130s in Vietnam. The Cameron Park resident is a fully rated FAA-certified pilot and said he planned to have a birthday dinner with his wife Ruth after his flight. Democrat photos by Krysten Kellum
