A facility for kids

By From page A5 | August 13, 2014

Have you looked under your couch cushions lately? How about in the bottom of your purse? How much spare change is living in your “junk drawer” at home? If you think there might be $2.77 in any of these places, you could help build a new state-of-the-art Boys & Girls Club facility right here in Placerville.

This facility would serve 220 local children each day. That’s 220 kids from all different backgrounds that will have access to an education center, art, music, computer and games room. There will be a teen center, commercial kitchen and a full-size gym. Kids will have counseling and early intervention resources available to them through The Center for Violence-Free Relationships and New Morning Youth & Family Services. Any local child from CASA will be offered all of this free of charge.

If everyone in El Dorado County found just $2.77 to donate, this facility will be complete by the fall of 2015.

The El Dorado Community Foundation is collaborating with the Boys & Girls Club on this effort because we as organizations see this project as part of our mission. We both recognize the value in investing in our local youth. Investing now can save our county resources later by teaching kids the skills they need to succeed and stay out of trouble. Investing now will also help provide a wonderful new venue for community groups to come together, have meetings and host events.

Be part of a lasting legacy — support the campaign for a permanent facility to house the Boys & Girls Club. Together we will make this happen. Together we will create a positive ripple effect for years to come for this community. Together we will ensure that great futures start here at Boys & Girls Club in Placerville. The Boys & Girls Club is where everything begins for these local kids, so let’s get it built.
