A great Easter movie

EDITOR: The Easter season is upon us; the season of eggs and bunnies and family celebrations and Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services. But there is one thing missing for me — “The Fourth Wiseman”. Yes, my favorite Easter — no, Christmas — no, make that Christmas/Easter — movie is missing, again! I have had three copies of it over the years. Each one I have lended out because the story is so moving that I wanted to share it. And three times I have lost track of it. Recently I tried to buy my fourth copy, but it seems to be scarce in the stores these days.

This movie is perfect for the season (meaning anytime between Christmas and Easter). It perfectly demonstrates the teachings of Jesus through the actions and attitudes of a medical magi who has missed the rendezvous with his three magi friends who are searching for a newborn king predicted to be born under a shining star which has recently appeared.

Martin Sheen does a marvelous job at portraying this driven, compassionate man who is always just a step behind them. In the end … well, I am not going to spoil it for you by telling you the end, but I will tell you that Alan Arkin does a great job at playing the faithful and amusing, yet reluctant servant. Eileen Brennen is also outstanding. Charlie Sheen even has a brief appearance as a Roman soldier.

All in all it is a great family Christmas — I mean Easter — I mean Christmas/Easter or anytime movie, with many memorable moments and a wonderful message. I hope you will find a copy and see for yourself. And by the way, if any of you happen to have one of my copies, please give it back … you know who you are. (But I sure can’t remember).
