Altshuler framing

By From page A5 | April 23, 2014

Mr. Altshuler’s “Things I have learned” column on April 2, 2014 starts with 10 pedantic paragraphs about psychological framing cleverly designed to make a series of false claims seem credible.

Among many specious claims consider that the “trillions of dollars” of Bush debt and the “trillion-dollar Clinton surplus” never happened. Measured in 2009 dollars, the Clinton surplus was $502 billion. The Bush deficit was $2.2 trillion. The five-year Obama deficit is $5.6 trillion, and his deficit will more than triple the Bush deficit by the end of his term in 2016.

Responsible voters need only go to the White House Website, open the president’s budget and click on the historical tables. But how many working voters have time for fact checking?

It is one thing to give print space to extremists on both sides of the aisle but another thing to publish a regular column written by someone who is purposefully conning the audience. Mountain Democrat, you have been “framed.”
