I was appalled and deeply offended by Weitzman’s editorial regarding Henry Brzezinski at Animal Services. First off, he is not a chief dog catcher. That term is rude, archaic and for you to call him that is disrespectful and totally ignorant. His title is Chief Animal Control Officer, a title that does do him justice as it leaves people like yourself thinking he is just an “officer.” Mr. Brzezinski manages Animal Services. He has a supervisor and several officers that report to him. He is charge of field operations, the shelter, assisting officers in the field, working on call and investigating animal cruelty cases, among his many duties.
His department is constantly short staffed due to the low pay his officers make. They start out at $16 per hour, and as we all know it is a dangerous job. An Animal Control officer was killed in the line of duty in Galt last year.
How dangerous is your job, Mr. Weitzman? You sit behind a desk and write nasty, untrue words about other people. You, like many others, think all they do is “catch animals” and impound them. You have no idea how wrong you are. Animal Services deals with dangerous and at-large animals on a daily basis, irresponsible pet owners who have no business owning animals and worst of all the animal cruelty cases, which happen more than you think.
You have the gall to comment about his pay yet you have no idea that he earns every penny he makes. Mr. Brzezinski’s salary is lower than other county employees who do not have near the responsibilities that he has. Why did you chose to single him out with facts? Is this what they taught you in journalism school, Mr. Weitzman? To write ignorant, rude, biased editorials?
I know Mr. Brzezinski personally and professionally and I have never met such a hardworking, upstanding, ethical human being as him and he cares deeply about animals. Your editorial was deeply hurtful and offensive and totally false and without merit.
