In 1964 I was at Fort Benning, Georgia to see the Colt Arms Company
demonstrate a new infantry weapon. They took a lot of #10 cans of
tomatoes (#10 can size is usually only in restaurants – they are big.)
and they had the Infantry School Markmanship Team shoot at the cans with
the .30 calibre (7.62mm) Garand M-1, the standard at the time. Each shot
hit the mark and resulted in an entrance and exit hole, with an
outpouring of tomato juice. Then the team was passed the new Colt
weapons; M-16s, the militarized version of their AR-15 rifle. Each shot
resulted in the can exploding, with literally nothing left, except metal
shards and a pool of pulverized tomatoes. The spokesman explained that
the Geneva Convention mandated a full-metal jacket round, so that the
round would go through an enemy body. No “dum-dum” or hollow-point
bullets were allowed. The M-16 got around that by having the high-
velocity bullet “tumble” when it hit the body, thereby converting most of
the kinetic energy to damage the internal organs, rather than translate
to increased range of the bullet as it passed through the target.

Everyone knew that everyone present was going to Vietnam so it was a welcome demonstration. The Garand M1 was designed for precision long-range shooting, and for WWII. The M-16 was designed for short-range jungle fighting, where precision was not wanted, in the reaction to an ambush. It was called “spray and pray, or “mad minute.” Just get all the rounds downrange as fast as you can.

And that is why the AR-15 should be banned. It is not a hunting rifle. It is a mass murder weapon.

The AR-15 is designed to not overheat, so even without the full automatic, it can fire just as fast as one can pull the trigger, just about as fast as full automatic. The normal hunting rifle can not do this, certainly not through the twenty, or so, rounds that that the AR-15 can fire.

I do not think that I want to see the rabbit taken by an AR-15. It’s already fricasseed. I do not want to see the chicken, rendered into chicken strips.

And most of all, I do not want to see the pictures of the dead children. We will never see those pictures. We would never be able to sleep. We would all get post-traumatic stress disorder.

The AR-15 is a military weapon which should never be sold to unqualified persons. And I know that it is always a mentally unbalanced person doing these things, and afterwards all the interviewees say that they knew he (it’s always a he) was crazy. No one seems to be able to get the crazies off the streets.

At least we do not have to give them mass murder weapons, with thousands of rounds of ammo.

ive yet to see the dfg code for 5 round capacity on a rifle.

also these are not assult weapons when are you people going to figure out…..assualt weapons=full auto NOT semi auto.
