That's over 100 miles away. Somehow doubt it or the people in the area would be flat out deaf.
Stewart KippAugust 08, 2012 - 8:54 am
That is thunder over the Sierra Mountains, a common summer afternoon phenomenon.
WAugust 08, 2012 - 8:59 am
The sound is different from the thunder that I have heard for years from my house. Also there is a slight rumbling just before the booms.
NATHAN FOLTZAugust 08, 2012 - 9:09 am
Thunder doesnt happin every day at 1130am
I've heard them tooAugust 08, 2012 - 9:16 am
"Thunder doesn't happen every day at 1130am" - It does for anyone trying to deflect attention from the legitimate question.
Nathan FoltzAugust 08, 2012 - 10:21 am
Good point
DarrinAugust 08, 2012 - 11:15 am
...and now we return to our regularly schedule thunderstorm.
MorrisAugust 08, 2012 - 6:08 pm
Darrin triggered a WAG (Wild Assed Guess) that could be considered: American Airlines. The DFW to SMF flight arriving at 11:55 am daily. For years I was a commuter on this flight and at right about 11:30 every day a 20 - 30 year old MD-80 swoops down info approach and aligns with the American River. This happens near Lake Tahoe and continues until Folsom. It might (stressing might) be a combination of older aircraft, approach pattern, canyon echo....etc. that sets conditions just right to magnify a sub-sonic boom? Just a thought....
C. GlatzAugust 08, 2012 - 6:15 pm
When I work outside I often hear the booms. All the poultry and other animals hear them too. The very deep booming is more felt than heard, it's not pleasant. I used to think it was underground blasting at some mine. Looks like there are myriad possible sources.
Tim WrightAugust 08, 2012 - 7:45 pm
It is the sound of hundreds of teapublican heads exploding as they realize that Mittens gets more hopeless each day.
DarrinAugust 08, 2012 - 9:40 pm
Ahhh, Mr. Wright, I love the Mittens Teaheads theory. How do we get more of them to follow the trail of their Imperial Wizard. He has all the makings of an new Bush...
Mountain MilitiaAugust 10, 2012 - 12:24 am
It is just militia war games preparing for the economic collapse of the government thanks to the current idiot in charge!
Wilfred MonahanAugust 10, 2012 - 3:58 am
Good. With any luck, these paranoid fools will all kill each other.
DarrinAugust 10, 2012 - 7:49 am
I heard 4 loud ones yesterday (9Aug2012) at 11:47 am. Then series of twos and threes after that for about 10 or 15 minutes then no more.
