another school shooting this morning – january 10th. a taft high school student critically wounded another student and slightly injured a teacher.

Catherine, as usual you enter the fray with inaccurate or incomplete information. Funny you’d mention armed police officers in the Oakland school, because there hasn’t been a shooting in an Oakland school since 1997 and that was in a van parked outside: http://www.stoptheshootings.org/ And you mentioned Columbine, which did have one armed Sheriff’s deputy on scene at the time. The deputy exchanged fire with Harris for an extended period of time (therefore drawing fire away from students) until Harris’s gun jammed. It’s very much an untreated psychosis plus guns issue. Not a ‘mental health’ issue, but a neurobiological disorder issue. And if you want to see what having cops in the schools looks like, take a field trip to Oakland. Columbine also had security on campus.

I too am TERRIFIED of a copycat situation. Just today there was a news story out of SoCal re a teen threatening to do the same. We pitch in for field trips, why not armed guard? Dollar per day per student would go a long way.

Oh, wait, this guy didn’t kill anyone, but some armed citizen should have shot him or a bystander anyway. Then they could get shot by the police who respond because they are shooting people… Where does it end?
