Buy a parking pass, get a ticket

EDITOR:

I received a Notice of Delinquent Citation for $33 (from Los Rios Community College District). Strange, since I had a current parking decal on my car all semester. I sent a copy of my decal along with the citation to CPC on the day I received the citation with an explanation disputing the ticket and providing evidence of my current parking permit.

I received a second Notice of Delinquent Citation; when I called I was told the ticket processing center did not receive my first notice of appeal. I filled out another form with a photo copy of my permit, I received no word, and assumed the citation was dismissed. I checked online, filed another appeal, and received a notice by mail that the citation appeal was denied with no explanations wrote a second letter. I was told I had to pay a bail (the cost of the ticket) to appeal the first appeal. I sent a Visa authorization for the $33.

The citation I received was issued in error. If an appeal is not received within the required 35 days it is doubled. Yet I have received no response from CPC stating the citation is dismissed or not.

In the interest of justice, I hope this information will help others who have run into a similar unfortunate situation avoid this frustration. I understand that citations can be issued in error and I have no problem disputing the citations. Errors happen, we are all human. The problem lies when there is evidence that will not even be considered because “it is stated that there is nothing that can be done.” There is always something that can be done, you just have to keep pressing forward and do a bit of research. I will forward this letter to the Board of Directors.

My daughter received a parking ticket (because the parking decal was forgotten to be hung up on the mirror). The ticket was paid. The car registration recently arrived with an additional charge of $41 for the ticket, saying it was unpaid. Looks like it is time for a little investigation and audit into the LRCCD parking ticket process.

I got a ticket 2 years ago at FLC-El Dorado Center even though the parking pass was hanging on my rear view mirror all semester (including the day I got the ticket). I appealed it and received a notice saying that my appeal did not provide enough evidence to dismiss the citation. I paid the citation fee even though I knew I wasn't in the wrong. The Los Rios College Police dept should be looked at a little closer. It is ridiculous how they treat their students.

Maybe LRCCD law enforcement has a mandatory ticketing quota.
