Thomas, we both as do many other Veterans understand how difficult a home coming can be. The second time for me was at late at night at El Toro Naval Air Station in Southern California. I was still wearing the same boots I had on during the battle of Le Bac I, I was processed and discharged within forty hours and found myself at a bus stop out side the base scratching mosquito bites received days before in south east Asia. The current thinking of how to handle returning troops especially the injured, read to me right out of the US Amy Chaplains Handbook repeated the best I can, says, for their spiritual, physical and mental healing they should not be singled out until such a time that they have healed. It goes on to talk about exceptions, and the healing process which I can not recall word for word. But I think you get the reality of it…

Richard, that is not what I said at all. But let me help you out on one point. The Military and Law enforcement is the citizenry. They would side with their families before they would side with a tyrannical government. Throwing off this overburdening government can be done by terminating hundreds of government agencies and throwing thousands of pages of regulation in the dumpsters where they belong.

Richard, I have experienced an empty homecoming, it was no fun seeing otheres be greeted by groups of people. I was not in battle per say but these guys were and you ask most ANY service member and I am sure they appreciate the support regardless if it’s an ElDO SHerrif or a 5 year old with a flag. By the way George SOros I hear would like to slash benefits for Veterans. Warm and fuzzy rich liberal that he is….

If you are charging an invasion of privacy to those veterans returning home by the well wishers at the airport? Then I’m guilty as charged.
For clarification. Regarding our Sheriff and his brother attending Army Spec. Harris’s homecoming reception coordinated by his family? A class act by the highest ranking person from our county. You obviously have a completely different since of reality than I do.

If I were to guess how much longer the Mountain Democrat can survive after the election when the republican PAC money dries up, with a new classified in our community, and with what appears to be a failed attempt at down-sizing. I would guess the parent company will pull the plug if they don’t get out of the black, regardless if it’s the oldest newspaper in California or not, during President Obama’s second term.
I have always liked the idea of a small town newspaper but not one so unbalance that even for an Independent voter it’s agonizing to read. It’s not just the Mountain Democrats
Endorsements, it’s the brand of politics, a good example is yesterday’s front page picture of Sheriff D’Agostini and his brother in-law greeting wounded Army Spec. Harris at the Sacramento Airport. Most welcome-homes have been small scale: hugs from mom, dad, brothers, and sisters, back slapping from friends and service mates at military posts and airports across our nation. Now it seems in El Dorado County Welcome Home events are being forced on the returning soldiers because some feel they deserve it giving little concern to the soldier’s current situation which is almost always different from when they departed. This forced welcome sets the stage for other unwanted situations like commercialization and political platforms, but maybe this is a discussion for another time. With the fragile condition of Spec Harris, the obvious emotions and love of his family, friends, mates and others, why did the Mountain Democrat select out of what must have been a zillion pictures taken, a photo that shows the most political active non-veteran elected official in our county. I guess it was just too good of a photo opportunity to pass up. I feel that for myself I would have rather viewed a photo of young Harris with mom and dad, sister or mates and friends in his arms which portrays the real meaning of, “Welcome Home.”

I do estimate General DB Smith of the Tea Party Army as severely lacking in tactical military knowledge and skills. Armed with his .22 and his sling shot, he continues to boggle the mind. After all, this is a general who isn’t even a graduate of basic training. So, General, if you do decide to take to the woods to battle the government, remember to take extra dry socks.

Dang I had a great weekend! Horseshoe tourney, barbecue, beer and very little politics. We got home and then read some things about 20mm miniguns, modern weapons, girl fights…. Geezzz. There are a few around here that think they are military experts and own the market on military comments, but that is not so. They are obviously unaware of the results of a well placed and disciplined 22 or a rock in a slingshot. I don’t think they’ve read the history of David and Goliath. From their military training they should know that you never underestimate your foe. We’ll we’re headed out to attend a big celebration party for the next few days with everyone looking forward to some good old fiscal responsibility, and true American leadership/values. I read somewhere “Never interrupt your foe when he is making mistakes”. So carry on foes and doe ~ I will not interrupt you anymore. Just for a little while.
