‘Currency wars and the Fed’

EDITOR:

Is there something in the water of El Dorado County? Am I alone; am I the only person who has to keep smelling salts at hand when I open the Mountain Democrat? I frequently have to fact check my own eyes as I read much of the contents. I am not a journalist, but I can’t believe that the “editors” of the Mountain Democrat have any training in the profession, or much of anything else. From where I stand, this paper can best be described as a right wing organ. Who is Dawn Hodson? What qualifies her to write an article about the Federal Reserve? Someone who starts by saying, “Contrary to what is taught in government schools …” suggesting some kind of state conspiracy, has immediately announced her agenda, and discredited the contents of the screed. Further, she refers to “authorities” of questionable credentials. If you want to use your space and my time constructively you might address the question of how do you manage a modern country without a central bank?

And please, give the byline to someone who shows some respect for education.

I agree. Government schools is not accurate at all. Union run schools is more like it. I am sure most of you know the California Federation of Teachers has created a fine new cartoon for the purpose of continued indoctination of defenseless little minds. Teaching them that those who create the wealth are the enemy and those who consume the wealth are the victims. Irony is a wealthy tax cheat heading up negotiations to raise taxes on the rich.

Ashley, Well written. MD, please hire her. Dawn Hodson does well when given factual reporting jobs. This other stuff just doesn't belong in the paper. But content is hard to find in a small town, and you could offer your staff and book review section where they could discuss non-news ideas that they are passionate about.

chrispy,it is with a heavy heart but with an absolutely clear conscience whereby I must announce that you have been dropped from this class. Adios - LINK - chrispy, your assignment is due 12/07/2012, 07:55 AM. in order to save the conspiracy industry from a date with infamy Your avenue for appeal is through the commission which is currently attempting to prove to one and all that Roosevelt did not know that the Japanese were on the way. Good luck.

Phil, Your class was not from an accredited institution. I pass wind in your general direction. It is painfully obvious from your comments you may be a victim of blind nationalism, have never traveled and are over 50 years old. Your comments are invalid sir!

To Ashley's comments: 1) The MD is indeed right leaning, but not as left-leaning as the Sacramento Bee. But I bet you don't complain to them. 2) Calling into question Ms Hodson's "pedigree' is a typical tactic of Liberals/Progressives, as if having the right academic alphabet after her name either affirms or refutes the topic at hand. 3) The schools ARE state run, that is empirical fact. They function by tax dollars, the gov't establishes the curriculum and the testing standards, they dictate what may or may not be served in their lunch rooms...etc. All said, in your entire rant, Ashley, you never took on and contradicted a single point with anything resembling a fact. Also a typical Liberal/Progressive tactic.

Chrispy, study math. Get back to me if you ever believe you have an inkling or an insight into, 1) A = P(1+r/n)^nt (A=amount, P= principal, r=rate, n=number of compounding, and t=time) and 2) The product of a sum is equal to the sum of the products The math holds in all institutions, all countries and for all ages of students. When you stop breaking wind and break the books do drop by.

Ms. Blinn: Bravo! Pithy letter and such great irony! I think Ms. Hodgson simply writes about whatever subject the editor, Mike Raffety, assigns to her. Ms. Hodgson knows which side her bread is buttered on: at the MD, it's the right--reactionary right--side.

John, to my discomfort I see that the distance between us has diminished. We have some common ground. You correctly identify Ms Hodson’s material as from the right. It is founded on trite recycled Bircher/conspiracy claptrap. But it is oft said that if one travels far enough to the right one finds oneself shaking hands with the left. What you characterize as , “right--reactionary right—side” I saw last year when I was trolling the various OWS live stream sites. Occupy’s lingo is different but it speaks with equally dangerous similar shards of truth which reassembled form into dangerous antiestablishment, anti-Semitic, kill the bankers, 99% vs 1% class warfare propaganda. John?

The bottom line is the reason that residents of this county DO NOT subscribe to the MD is the far-right wing nut articles and non-fact- based articles...... In the 21st Century I am amazed that newspapers (so called) like this still survive.

Shingle Senior: I subscribe to the MD and according to the colonel, you must also subscribe to the MD otherwise you would not be able to post comments here. You may want to try the Sac Bee after your MD subscription expires. Merry Christmas.

Mr. Smith, I just sent in my renewal to the MtDemocrat. It's good on local news, but somewhat lacking on the political front in my most humble opinion. I also subscribe to the Sacramento Bee to get a sense of what is happening in the greater Sacramento area. As always, knowledge is power.

Knowledge is power? The notion of power must take into account the distinction between the power of knowing and the power of working and acting.

to Ashley's point; dawn hobsen is not a journalist, she lists no credentials, part 3 of her story was mostly one large reprint of someone elses writing. in fact i would wager that she is not capable of discussing what she 'wrote'. that is why an education matters. db smith; a subscription to the md is not required to comment here. anon: try posting something original.

Ms. Hodson came on the scene about the time Pat Lakey disappeared. Pat Lakey was with the Mt.Democrat for a long, long time. Why the mystery? Perhaps Ms. Lakey was dropped from the paper because of a misdeed of her own making, or because her philosophy didn't match the new editor or owner. Will we ever know? Maybe we don't need to know.

Editor: I think if you used the "pay to play" method then we would get rid of a lot of the radical left wing folks that are always wanting something for nothing. Then after a little while they would begin to feel left out and couldn't stand it any longer and would begin to pay their fair share which would help to maintain a site like this. All they do is constantly complain about the MD but then at the same time they keep reading it and commenting about it for free. Typical demlib stuff I guess.
