Editor: I think if you used the “pay to play” method then we would get rid of a lot of the radical left wing folks that are always wanting something for nothing. Then after a little while they would begin to feel left out and couldn’t stand it any longer and would begin to pay their fair share which would help to maintain a site like this. All they do is constantly complain about the MD but then at the same time they keep reading it and commenting about it for free. Typical demlib stuff I guess.

Ms. Hodson came on the scene about the time Pat Lakey disappeared. Pat Lakey was with the Mt.Democrat for a long, long time. Why the mystery? Perhaps Ms. Lakey was dropped from the paper because of a misdeed of her own making, or because her philosophy didn’t match the new editor or owner. Will we ever know? Maybe we don’t need to know.

to Ashley’s point; dawn hobsen is not a journalist, she lists no credentials, part 3 of her story was mostly one large reprint of someone elses writing. in fact i would wager that she is not capable of discussing what she ‘wrote’. that is why an education matters. db smith; a subscription to the md is not required to comment here.

Mr. Smith, I just sent in my renewal to the MtDemocrat. It’s good on local news, but somewhat lacking on the political front in my most humble opinion. I also subscribe to the Sacramento Bee to get a sense of what is happening in the greater Sacramento area. As always, knowledge is power.

John, to my discomfort I see that the distance between us has diminished. We have some common ground. You correctly identify Ms Hodson’s material as from the right. It is founded on trite recycled Bircher/conspiracy claptrap. But it is oft said that if one travels far enough to the right one finds oneself shaking hands with the left. What you characterize as , “right–reactionary right—side” I saw last year when I was trolling the various OWS live stream sites. Occupy’s lingo is different but it speaks with equally dangerous similar shards of truth which reassembled form into dangerous antiestablishment, anti-Semitic, kill the bankers, 99% vs 1% class warfare propaganda. To Ashley’s comments: 1) The MD is indeed right leaning, but not as left-leaning as the Sacramento Bee. But I bet you don’t complain to them. 2) Calling into question Ms Hodson’s “pedigree’ is a typical tactic of Liberals/Progressives, as if having the right academic alphabet after her name either affirms or refutes the topic at hand. 3) The schools ARE state run, that is empirical fact. They function by tax dollars, the gov’t establishes the curriculum and the testing standards, they dictate what may or may not be served in their lunch rooms…etc. All said, in your entire rant, Ashley, you never took on and contradicted a single point with anything resembling a fact. Also a typical Liberal/Progressive tactic.

Ashley, Well written. MD, please hire her. Dawn Hodson does well when given factual reporting jobs. This other stuff just doesn’t belong in the paper. But content is hard to find in a small town, and you could offer your staff and book review section where they could discuss non-news ideas that they are passionate about.

I agree. Government schools is not accurate at all. Union run schools is more like it. I am sure most of you know the California Federation of Teachers has created a fine new cartoon for the purpose of continued indoctination of defenseless little minds. Teaching them that those who create the wealth are the enemy and those who consume the wealth are the victims. Irony is a wealthy tax cheat heading up negotiations to raise taxes on the rich.
