I love Mr. Garon’s attempts to mislead because they stir interest and allow a more full airing of the hypocrisy of the left. He states that Congress and staffs will have to sign up for Obamacare like everybody else and goes on to state that they will get a premium subsidy (he doesn’t mention the amount, but it’s 72 percent). He uses the phrase “continue to get.” This is where we get deceptively misleading.
They weren’t going to “continue” to get this subsidy until it was specifically restored to them recently. This was in the news for anybody paying the attention that Mr. Garon hopes readers don’t pay. In the real world, where costs do matter, as opposed to government where we are spending your grandchildren’s money so it doesn’t matter, the way employees of companies get on exchanges is that their employer drops their existing plan. For a company to drop a current plan and still pay for an employee to join another plan such as Obamacare would be ludicrous. There would be no point for a company to drop a plan only to begin paying for another plan.
You can see where this is going but it gets better. Congress and its staff currently covered by the FEHBP (Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan), a very generous health plan, can keep it under the exemption recently enacted and which Sen. Vitter of Louisiana has demanded be repealed. Sen. Vitter, to his credit, wants this exemption repealed so that Congress and the American people can stand together and not have Congress, as he put it, “treat itself like a higher selected ruling class.” This is why a GOP plan to treat everybody the same, Congress included, was reacted to by Democrats in the Senate with a combination of panic and anger.
The left loves to paint the GOP as fat cats and themselves as the common man. If you look you’ll find that most of the fat cats in Washington are Democrats. Just check the finances of Feinstein, Pelosi and the Heinz Ketchup king John Kerry. When you hear the terms subsidy and exemption being used with people earning six figures, the hypocrisy of Obamacare becomes readily apparent.
