Destruction on upper Broadway

EDITOR:

Has anyone else noticed the changes going on in Eastern Placerville area? I think the homeless camp is helping many people but this upper Broadway area is full of folks wandering around, urinating and relieving themselves right out in public, and they are bullying the customers and merchants of the local businesses. The shopping center above the Dollar Tree is full of trash, old food and many transients just hanging around. I shop regularly at the Grocery Outlet, but these people are getting really aggressive and I am feeling uncomfortable, and unsafe. The destruction is making its way down Broadway and I think we need to open our eyes and find some solutions. The cuts made to local programs is sending many out on the streets to fend for themselves. I think we need some help, right away.

LINDA GARRETT

I am happy to report that I was not approached by, bullied or accosted by homeless people during my trip to grocery outlet today. I did not see anyone urinating or otherwise 'relieving themselves'. the overnight temp in placerville was 24 degrees. a little compassion might be in order.

I, too, have encountered no problems, either on Upper Broadway nor on the hiking trail.

Ms. Garrett, the temporary Hangtown Haven was supposed to be one of those compassionate solutions. The city police need to appropriately police.

Just because Arnold and Evelyn did not experience a problem doesn't change the fact that Linda did.

Heidi, what has been your own experience on Upper Broadway?

The only problem I have encountered is that one guy who is always around McDonald's and Rite Aid. Don't ever bother to try to help him or offer him anything, he will turn on you.

I don`t shop on broadway anymore, about a year ago i was harrased by a group of homeless near McDonalds. When you put in homeless shelters , camps and mess halls your asking for trouble. Other than the very few legit homeless persons, i say withdraw all help and see any city look better, the rest of the homeless, well, let em be homeless,

jon schroder, “Let em be homeless?” - HURRICANE DISTRIBUTION CENTER BEING SHUT DOWN BY NEW YORK CITY HOUSING AUTHORITY: "The 57th Street Action Center has been operating as the central emergency distribution hub for the Arverne Queens area at the Ocean Bay Apartment houses since Hurricane Sandy struck the NYC area. The center distributes food, supplies, medical, and legal services to those still living in unhealthy environments. There are still 10,000 people living without power in Rockaway alone and the action center is under the threat of being closed down by its landlord, the New York City Housing Authority." ********** http://tinyurl.com/dxh5ozm
