Do something, board president

EDITOR: I am calling on Cameron Park Board of Directors President Greg Stanton to do something to control the increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior of Director Scott McNeil. Month after month Director McNeil has become more aggressive towards the public and several other board members.

At the June 19 Cameron Park CSD meeting during open forum Mr. Bill Carey got up to address the obscene graffiti that had been painted at the skate park enclosure in Christa McAuliffe Park. Mr. Carey opened his presentation by acknowledging that the words spray painted at the skate park enclosure have been deemed by the board of directors as inappropriate to speak in a CSD meeting. Mr. Carey proceeded by showing the board and public what was painted at the skate park enclosure by holding up signs with the words written on them. Mr. Carey did not at any time say the words; he merely showed the board and the public at the meeting what the children of Cameron Park who use the skate park enclosure have had to see every day for over two weeks.

During Mr. Carey’s presentation Director Scott McNeil repeatedly interrupted Mr. Carey and created such a disturbance at the meeting that a recess had to be called. During this recess Director McNeil shouted that he wanted Mr. Carey thrown out of the meeting along with his signs. At another point in the recess, while Mr. Carey was standing at the dais speaking with the Parks Supervisor Paul Ryan, Director McNeil rapidly approached Mr. Carey from the far side of the dais in a threatening and menacing manner. He confronted Mr. Carey and got so close as to cause Mr. Carey to tell him to back up. Mr. Carey’s language was more colorful than this but it was justified. Director McNeil was getting so close as to pose a threat to Mr. Carey.

This is not the first time Director McNeil’s outbursts have become so disruptive during a CSD meeting that it was necessary for the board president to call recess to regain control. Director McNeil has become a public nuisance at the CSD meetings by routinely interrupting people who are at the podium speaking. He has shouted at the public from the dais in direct violation of Cameron Park CSD Policy 4050.2 (Directors shall at all times conduct themselves with courtesy to each other, to staff, and to members of the audience present at Board meetings.) He treats several of his fellow directors with equal disrespect, sniping and arguing indiscriminately.
