Durock Road response

EDITOR:

I am a lifelong resident of Durock Road. I have been around for all of it’s projects since it was old Highway 50. I, for one, am very pleased with the job that Veerkamp Engineering did on the recent EID pipe project. I was also pleased with the stoplight project they did last year. We needed that to slow down the speeders. We probably should have a couple more. My highest praise is to the workers of Veerkamp Engineering for their efficency and courtesy they displayed while doing their work. The traffic at times is very heavy. This is due partly to our good friends and neighbors in Cameron Park using it to go to our post office. Maybe they should get their own post office? Or maybe they should use the freshly paved, smooth and fast freeway that won’t harm their tires and suspensions.

As a resident of Cameron Park I would like to second your call for a post office here. It is a pain to go to Shingle Springs to get mailing supplies and I don’t like dodging the careless drivers in the Bel Aire parking so I am with you. Now what do we need to do to get this accomplished?

Mr. Lichtenberg, I get the feeling that you welcome the poor road conditions because they require drivers to risk damage or keep their speed well below the posted limit. Times have changed considerably since Durock was old Highway 50 and the increased traffic isn't because Cameron Park residents want to use "your" post office, it's because there are a great many more people living in this region and the road is the only link between the Shingle Springs area and Cameron Park without having to jump onto high speed highway 50.

We have lived on Durock Rd for ~10 years now, and unfortunately we think the 45MPH is excessive around the bends and crests in the road, including the one for our 'semi-suicidal' driveway exit, let alone the clowns that like to wind it up through the gears along here . . . "Thanks Veerkamp's," you are a class act, not only by the roadwork here but also as can be seen by meticulous yard layout here in the industrial park, (and a great 'cat' museum :-)! -Bob
