Even in these difficult economic times, the generosity of our community continues. Over 500 people attended the supper and this fundraiser will donate over $11,000 to help solve the problem of hunger in our community and in Nicaragua. We had an outpouring of volunteers and business support. The Empty Bowls Supper had over 200 volunteers working together to make it happen. Our Business Community donated food, drinks and over 100 silent auction items. We had 50 soup makers and bread makers. Most of the volunteers who set-up, serve and clean-up for the supper are our local high schools including El Dorado, Ponderosa,, Union Mine and the Girl Scouts. Student and professional potters made the keepsake bowls that everyone took home. This event is nearly trashless and almost everything was recycled. We wish we could name all of you one by one. Please know that your generosity makes a difference in our community.
Each year two organizations that feed the hungry receive the funds, one local and one international. The Upper Room Dining Hall in Placerville has been the local recipient for many years. They provide over 150 dinners every day to hungry people in our local community. This year the new international organization was El Porvenir of Nicaragua. We were lucky to have the founder, Carole Harper from Davis, at Empty Bowls. We received a nice thank you note from Carole who said how totally impressed she was with Empty Bowls and the outpouring of support from our Community.
The wonderful music of Coloma Celtic and Jonny Mojo provided a festive atmosphere. Special thanks to our generous community for continuing to be part of the solution to the problem of hunger.
Please shop in town to support our local businesses.
