Extend Hangtown Haven

EDITOR:

My wife and I had the opportunity to give blankets, towels and face cloths to the homeless at Hangtown Haven recently. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the camp, the organization of the facility, and the positive attitudes of the homeless.

Also, as a veteran (23 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve), I became aware that many of the inhabitants of the Haven were veterans as well. Then I realized that they had fought in many wars overseas to keep us safe at home, and now were homeless.

The city of Placerville is to be congratulated for providing the shelter of Hangtown Haven. We hope that they will extend the facility beyond the year that they have currently provided. The shelter does give the homeless the opportunity to get back on their feet.

  2. cookie65 says:

James, I get paid for my discernment. So you could say it is a marketable skill. Lots of people seek me out for it.

  3. Phil Veerkamp says:

    Don’t use mathematical concepts beyond your understanding. i.e. N. Korea = U.S.

  4. Evelyn says:

You’re stuck in a time warp. Get out of Dodge while you can!

  5. Evelyn says:

. . . HOWEVER: About that “N. Korea = U.S.” thing, go back and read (with your glasses on) the article title. In the meantime, I’ll drink to your health.

  6. Evelyn says:

. . . and THEN, if reading the title hasn’t given you a headache or caused temporary blindness, try reading the article itself. I’ll bet you $s to donuts you never got that far. But I may be wrong. In which case, I’ll apologize in advance, but not after demanding that you cease being OFFICIOUS!!!

  7. cookie65 says:

James, I am well aware that to the left and obama prosperity, the private sector, the 2nd amendment, religious freedom, coal, energy independence, small business, the middle class and the Constitution have no meaning. That is what we are up against and is the point I was making. I will use more one syllable words for you in the future if that will help.

  8. Phil Veerkamp says:

Cookie, Evelyn INSISTS I apologize to you for calling you perspicacious. I’m sorry. BTW – Good luck with James. He’s so unperspicacious.

  9. Evelyn says:

I’m sorry Cookie65. Though your comment was for James this is a public forum and I feel compelled to respond to your above. Personally I feel insulted by your generalization. As political lines are drawn I’d have to be characterized as the “left”. It is a reckless mischaracterization to say that I don’t care about the Constitution, prosperity, the 2nd Amendment, small business or the middle class. Being continuously stuck in and amplifying the US/THEM dichotomy is a trap set for us. We are not required to voluntarily walk into it. And continuously unthinkingly and deliberately using that ploy hardens the lines, stifling meaningful communication and aborting problem solving.

  10. cookie65 says:

Sometimes you shouldn’t raise your hand. Be insulted all you want. “It is error only, and not truth, that shrinks from inquiry.” -Thomas Paine.

  11. cookie65 says:

It is “right vs wrong” .

  12. cookie65 says:

Phil, James is #4 from the movie Multiplicity.

  13. Evelyn says:

. . . and we are to believe that YOU, Cookie65, own “the truth”. Or the right owns the “the truth”. Or the Tea Party owns “the truth”. Or wherever it is you find your own personal identification owns “the truth”. Just too bad about us lesser mortals who should feel privileged to walk in your shadow, never to emerge into “the light”. PERSPICACIOUS is not the word I’d use for this. Oh, I forgot, you get PAID for your “discernment”. But never fear, we’ll keep stumbling along, even though we haven’t a hope in Hades of ever arriving. Thanks for taking the time to attempt to enlighten us. Now I think I’ll go over to Huffington Post to see what you’ve learned today. I can at least attempt to keep up. Oh . . . and about that “corn planting” . . .

  14. cookie65 says:

The left doesn’t “stumble along”, they are “led” to their conclusions. Or do you believe it is just coincedence that they all reach identical opinions on vertually every subject? Just like a school of fish.

  15. cookie65 says:

Some people around the net aren’t nearly and generous as I am when it comes to obama and his minions. Here is an example. “When he looks out over this once great land he see´s, cultivates and caters to the largest group of dumbed-down, barely aware, dope-smoking, self-absorbed, media-influenced, celebrity-obsessed, Food-Stamp wielding, Escalade driving, Kool-Aid drinking, entitlement rich, government-dependent, busted-ass, free-loading, low information, Obamaphone zombies and ignorant, gullible, White guilt-ridden, Volvo-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, bottled-water-drinking, Politically Correct, Xanax-disabled, Valium-dependent, mindless, spineless liberal lemmings that´s ever existed!”

  16. Dee says:

Cookie, quote from James Carvville,—“Ideologies aren’t all that important. What’s important is psychology.

The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That’s why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd.
Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don’t have a clue as to political reality.
What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want.
The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn’t have a clue than there were Republicans.
Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you’re smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That’s why I’m a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.”
    This says it all.

  17. DB Smith says:

Dee, Carville is married to Republican Mary Matalin. I couldn’t imagine being married to someone of opposite beliefs. The democratic sheepel don’t realize what’s happening to them and the country.

  18. Evelyn says:

DB Smith, Matalin and Carville certainly DO make an odd couple.

Dee, thanks for the really funny quote! Apparently it debuted in October 2012, having been falsely posted by an unknown user to a quotations website called thinkexist.com. Perhaps you could give us the news article, speech, interview transcript, or printed source documenting this statement purportedly from James Carville. His office maintains he never said it. But then, as you know, “truth is relative”.

  19. DB Smith says:

Sacramento has now topped the list for the worst city for small business in the entire nation. Democratic rule and their poor decisions are ruining this state! Did you hear about that two faced global warming Democratic VP Al Gore prick and his latest business deal? Busy day so I gotta git er going….

  20. Evelyn says:

Having begun the day with a good laugh, for old time’s sake, an offering of George W’s best. HERE. And they’re actually all sourced.

  21. Evelyn says:

Want some good Tea Party quotes?
HERE. My personal favorite is #2, Christine O’Donnell. ********** My ONLY point is that using quotations — real OR fake — to smear entire groups of people is a poor substitute for honest exchange.

  22. Evelyn says:

I’ve just discovered a source of funny quotes on just about anything you can think of, including “Funny Bible Quotes”: Do not eat anything you find already dead. You may give it to an alien living in any of your towns and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner… ~ Deuteronomy 14:21 (I have not checked to see if this really is from Deuteronomy. Feel free to do so and report back. I claim no responsibility, ’cause I found it on the internet.)

  23. Evelyn says:

How very odd. The same website that deals primarily in Biblical quotes – Catholic, healing, Christian, love, friendship, God, Brotherly Love, friends, forgiveness (to name but a few) – ALSO has John Kerry quotes. What is THAT all about? I’ll bet I could start a website and then one day people would be authoritatively quoting me! (Got my work cut out for me now.)

  24. James E. says:

Cookie, just like a school of fish, following the bogus Tea/Republican/Republican/Think Tank talking points. Rigid bogus talking points from the top to the bottom, followed religiously without question.

  25. James E. says:

Cookie, so food stamp recipients drive Escalades? And I bet they drive them to Ruths Chris to spend their food stamps on filet and fine wine. Isn’t this a rehash of Reagan’s false reference to the welfare queen driving a Cadillac? But, anyway, thanks for updating the talking point. Ruths does have good steaks, but I was disappointed when we went there for Thanksgiving — turkey cut from the bird? No, cut from a turkey roll — I was shocked and appalled.

  26. Evelyn says:

A QUOTE TO NOTE: “It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.” ~ Mark Twain, 1885
