I see John Garon using an Alice in Wonderland metaphor to try to denigrate the Tea Party and praise Obamacare. I have to admit that your use of Alice in Wonderland is appropriate since if anybody ever resided in Never Never Land, it’s you.
In his convoluted and bizarre letter Mr. Garon tries to say that anybody that supports the second amendment and opposes the debacle of Obamacare is irrational. Linking the Second Amendment and Obamacare requires a warped mind, so let’s take them individually. He says that the Tea Party supports a gun in every hand to make us safer.
First, while the Tea Party does support the Second Amendment, its main focus is the size of government and the crushing debt that is being left for our grandchildren. But back to the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is a right enumerated in the Bill of Rights. It doesn’t mandate that everybody own a gun just like the Constitution doesn’t mandate that everybody vote. Although it ensures their right to do so. A right is something that you are free to exercise or not at your discretion.
Now to the debacle of Obamacare. Where to start? I suppose we could mention the Website that after hundreds of millions of dollars being spent looks like it was designed by a second grade computer class. Talk about a cluster. Then we could move on to that bald-faced lie that if you liked your plan you could keep it. Obama was still saying that in 2012. However, a recently released memo from the IRS told the administration in 2010 that millions of individual policy holders would lose their coverage because the cost of their plans would skyrocket and many insurers were expected to cancel them altogether. Anybody following the news knows that this has been happening almost daily.
One of the idiotic reasons that costs are rising is that Obamacare is forcing standardized coverage that for many just doesn’t make sense — like a grandmother paying for neo-natal coverage. With the multitude of almost daily disasters associated with this ill-conceived healthcare plan even a group of Senate Democrats are calling for a postponement of its implementation. If the administration does postpone implementation it will be a real hoot since the GOP was willing to end the shutdown for just such a postponement. For the Democrats to do now what would have avoided the shutdown in the first place would be ironic in the extreme.
