Good-ol-boy network

EDITOR:

Just wondering if the people of El Dorado County know how poorly, or not at all, this county works. The Board of Supervisors are elected by the people; the BOS then appoints its own members to represent it on the Planning Commission.

Now here comes a businessman who had conditions placed on his business by the BOS over three (years) ago. He now doesn’t like the one condition and appeals to the Planning Commission because he doesn’t want to put in a sidewalk. He says it will cost him $45,000, but DOT says it will only cost $18,000. Because of the “poor me” excuse from this businessman, the Planning Commission lets the sidewalk condition be taken off his building requirements. The logic from one of the PC members is this, “If you put in sidewalks the people will walk on them and this will lead to more people in your neighborhood.”

This is how this county works, or does not work. If you were expecting the laws to be enforced on businesses and you will have logical and common sense building, don’t move here … it is beyond crazy. The good-ol-boy network is alive and well over here in El Dorado County.

I agree---the good ol' boy network is alive and well and they dominate our County Board of Supervisors. I don't think there is one of them who has not sold himself lock, stock, and barrel to private interests, developers, and various money interests. Thank goodness we got rid of one of the worst ones, but one just as bad got re-elected. Please research about who you vote for in the future, and keep these professional users and liars out of office here.

Did anyone of us ever think that the GOB's haven't passed on their way of doing business and shown how to get away with it for so long, it has proven that it pays well. The county BOS and it's GOB's are still alive as long as we let them, until the cancer is cut out and we rid the board of this type we won't see the end. There are several questions left to be answered and people to be held accountable, we can only hope the Grand Jury and the DA do what has been demanded. Arrest the guilty parties and remove them from office as soon as possible, in the case of a sitting supervisor do it before another term starts. Enough is enough and it's time to expose the criminals and do the right thing and fast, the one who comes forward first may get a pass to take down the rest and clean up this mess.

You can tell Cal of "Cal's Market" in Greenwood is not part of the GOBs..... Imagine putting your store in an existing store built in 1930s.....and getting fined for it.... Maybe the BOS will wave him not having sidewalks..... NAH....they'll probably fine him for that too...

Well, all is not lost, because if the business does well then he may well put in the sidewalk. As was quoted... “If you put in sidewalks the people will walk on them and this will lead to more people in your neighborhood.” Hopefully, this is what the business wants.

These "Good ol' Boy" networks have been entrenched for decades in various elected positions who then promoted the other Gob's to join them in ever higher "promotions". The worst has been in the BOS then legal areas like Judges/DA and law enforcement, the worst being the Sheriff's Office. The key to taking them down is to vote them out, arrest them out, or expose them in the media with facts and embarass them out. All have been effective, but when one is knocked out seems another soon arrives from the same circle or one arrives during campaign season who proclaims if they get the vote what they will do to the corrupt Gob's and then does nothing but throw retirement parties as they sneak out with the public funds. We will need more voting, exposing and investigating until they run like the rats on a sinking ship out of this county.

The system is very self-serving. Whether we're talking about city or county planning commissions or economic advisory commissions (or anything else, for that matter) appointments, conducted by insiders, are made to serve particular economic interests, now called "visions". What these "visions" do NOT include is representative democracy. "We the people" has become an anachronism. In El Dorado County, as elsewhere, democracy has been reduced to a platitude.

1036-Frank and Demo with a small "d".....both valid and correct responses......but if we turn our backs and "let them have it all" they will take it. Pls. keep writing, voting, calling and emailing to let the public know what a cancer we have in our county.......it might take some time, but in the end we will win.

The length of time the GOB's get away with the self centered and personal use of the county's funds and the abuse of power the more it will continue. The investigations don't go smoothly without a cover up and then the system wins again as the GOB's hold court and what they know about each other controls. We can only hope that all the illegal things become public and that they are held accountable.
