EDITOR: I am the volunteer coordinator at Hangtown Haven in Placerville. We are looking for a few good volunteers. The tasks are simple, but quite important.
Most readers of the Mountain Democrat are probably aware of Hangtown Haven and the efforts to provide the local homeless community with a safe place to stay and be off the streets. We have a group of very dedicated volunteers at Hangtown Haven but could use more.
Volunteers are at the Haven for three-hour shifts on weekdays. The shifts are from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Duties include greeting people that make donations or are otherwise interested in seeing how the Haven operates, performing some administrative tasks, and assisting the homeless guests in the day-to-day operation of the Haven.
Our Haven is just what the name implies. It is safe, clean and friendly and we believe it can be a model for other communities.
If you are interested in a very worthwhile volunteer opportunity, please contact me at don.rake@yahoo.com.

How about enlisting the dwellers of the haven? Good luck trying to find any willing to work.
