Head Start hours cut

By From page A5 | August 22, 2014

EDITOR:

El Dorado County’s Superintendent of Schools Jeremy Meyers plans to close the achievement gap the old fashioned way, by cutting the hours our disadvantaged preschoolers receive to prepare for Kindergarten.

When the new federal Head Start moneys were granted in June, Mr. Meyers also funneled more money to administration, and cut the hours and salaries of staff in the classrooms. This approach has not worked in the past, and it will not work now.
