Hope for closure

EDITOR:

I am in hopes that writers concerned with the removal of the El Dorado “All League” football players’ pictures of the ’80s and ’90s from the weight room wall would read what I have to say and have the negative “letters” come to a halt.

On Monday, June 3, I finally visited El Dorado High School to see and ask questions as to what was taking place with this controversial problem. I was surprised to be led to the new “All League Football Wall” in Bennett Park. Yes, the wall is in place and has names from the 1940s to the present. They are in increments of every 10 years. (Example: 80s, 90s, etc.)

There are well over 100 names included within the new wall. Each metal nameplate is attached below to the decades with the 80s being dominant. The names are there for all to see as the spectators walk into the beautiful new facility.

Principal Matt Barnes and Athletic Director Joe Volek must be congratulated for having done an outstanding job of bringing “all” the players names up-to-date. If your name is left out and belongs on the wall, bring it to the attention to Matt and Joe.

For you real old timers, like me, the new wall is located below the finish of the 100 yard sprint on the old upper oval track. The landmark Cedar Tree is still there too. You sprinters remember finishing and running down the hill.

The original pictures are fading and now all players from the past will be honored for their achievement.

I take pride in the many accomplishments I had a hand in, in my 37 years at El Dorado, and I am sure Mr. Barnes and Mr. Volek will feel the same way.

The track team have “Best Five” and I tried to get the “Best 3 Times” in swimming. I’m sure the other sports will want something in the future too.

Also I’m in hopes Mr. Volek will continue the other “Wall of Fame” in Bennett Park as there are some really great athletes from EI Dorado that should be included.

Hi coach Kenworthy. Hope you are doing well. A very long time ago a student in P.E. asked you what it was like to take four years of college to learn to count to 10 by sets of 4. I want to apologize for that.
