Israel is not our friend and neither is our government

EDITOR:

On June 8, 1967, Israel attacked the USS Liberty, killing 34 crew members and wounding 171. At the time, the ship was in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula.

Israeli air and naval forces used machine-gun fire, napalm and torpedoes in an attempt to sink the ship and kill the crew. The ship’s distress call was immediately received by the Sixth Fleet and twice fighters were deployed to defend the ship, only to be recalled by President Lyndon Johnson.

Inquiries were later held but a former Navy attorney who helped lead the military investigation of the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty said Johnson and his defense secretary, Robert McNamara, ordered that the inquiry conclude the incident was an accident. Apparently Johnson didn’t want to “embarrass our ally” — especially an ally who had helped make him President.

It was “one of the classic all-American cover-ups,” said retired Admiral Thomas Moorer, a former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman who spent a year investigating the attack as part of an independent panel he formed with other former military officials.

Fifteen years after the attack, an Israeli pilot approached USS Liberty survivors and then held extensive interviews with former Congressman Paul N. (Pete) McCloskey about his role. According to this senior Israeli lead pilot, he recognized the Liberty as American immediately, so informed his headquarters, and was told to ignore the American flag and continue his attack. He refused to do so and returned to base, where he was arrested.

Successive calls for a real investigation have fallen on deaf ears as presidents and members of Congress have avoided the issue for fear of drawing the ire of the powerful Israeli lobby, which funds their campaigns and controls much of the media in America. Anyone daring to criticize the holy state of Israel is instantly branded an anti-Semite or a Nazi and their careers ruined.

However this is not the first time Israel has stabbed us in the back. In the Lavon Affair, a group of Egyptian Jews were recruited by Israeli military intelligence for plans to plant bombs inside Egyptian, American and British-owned civilian targets, cinema, library and American educational center with the attacks blamed on the others. Another one of Israeli’s false flag operations.

Recently we learned of Israeli treachery on another score with the revelations that the NSA has been spying on American phone calls, e-mails and Internet surfing for some time and plans to expand it using as its reason the phony baloney “War on Terror.” Apparently the NSA has been working with two Israeli companies, called Narus and Verint, who are able to divert duplicate megatons of data to Israeli intelligence. So now we not only have the American government spying on us, we have the Israeli government as well. How will this information be used? How about industrial espionage or blackmailing politicians into doing Israel’s bidding?

Does anyone really think that the people in Washington represent us when they have betrayed us so often to a foreign government that willfully spies on us and kills Americans with impunity?

My answer is no and a pox on both their houses.

Officially the US was neutral during the six day war. I suspect that Israel was skeptical of our "neutrality". Has the US ever been duplicitous? . . . hmmmm . . . . ? The Liberty was a spy ship. Israel could not assume that the Liberty was benign to Israel's interests.

Israel has a greater interest in the prosperity of the American people than our current administration. A middle east without Israel is a penitentiary without bars. At least Iran is scared of Israel. They certainly aren't scared of our community agitator.

Our media is not the friend of the American people. They continue to display all the characteristics of a battered wife. http://www.ijreview.com/2013/06/62540-obama-tells-his-press-corps-to-behave/
