‘Make way for BMW’s’

EDITOR:

In my morning ritual of browsing through the Mt. Democrat, I stopped at the Letters to the Editor, which I always read. One letter in particular caught my attention. That one was written by a Mr. Grant Nelson of Placerville criticizing BMW drivers in total. Let me respond by saying first of all, yes Mr. Nelson, BMW is a quality automobile. We own one, it’s 12 years old, has 112,000 plus miles on it, gets 28 miles per gallon and has been reported by Consumer Reports to go 142 miles per hour. It is also generally accepted to be a 250,000 mile car before rebuild time.

Before retirement, I drove 100,000 miles per year. I’ve witnessed many drivers as you described this particular BMW driver. My wife and I returned Sunday evening from the southern part of our state. While on Grant Line Road driving the speed limit, a Dodge Durango was tailgating us. I wanted to stop at a fruit stand we always patronize when in that area. Turning on my turn signal about 150 feet before our exit, the Durango swerved into the on coming lanes and accelerated. So am I to condemn all Durango drivers. Sounds like we should be glad you’re not in any position to make dire decisions, or we might have a war on our hands.

People need to keep up with these here moderne tymes. All of the obnoxious BMW drivers have been replaced by obnoxious Audi drivers.
