   I have always believed that if the payroll tax deduction were eliminated and people had to write a check every quater for their taxes everything in this country would change in regards to government and how it operates.

   Perhaps you are right Kirk, but if every working American experienced what small business owners experience rather than never missing it because they never see it, it might get their attention as to what government is really costing them and what they are getting for it in return. There are countless small business owners who could hire 2-3 full time employees with what they pay in taxes every month.

    Great question Evelyn. The answer to which is this, we can’t. The idea of a representative government has become a sham. These cretins in DC are at the very top of the 1% that gets complained about so much. They have no idea what life for ordinary folk is like. And yet, we return them to “represent” us over and over. Longhofer will follow this comment up with a bash on Republicans as though his socialist lot were innocent. They’re ALL guilty-with very VERY few exceptions. Let’s please be honest about this.

    Evelyn, the koolaid in Washington takes many, rational well intentioned individuals and transforms them into some kind of mutation that seem to believe that any action regardless of the consequences is better than no action at all. To say that they are completely insulated from the consquences of their actions is a colossal understatement. It has also been reported that obama was headed back to Hawaii without signing the bill. So his trip to DC was nothing more than a photo-op at the cost of millions to the taxpayers he was looking out for.

    After reading Furniture’s guided responses I can’t help but applaud the decline of the tea Party, which has become a toxic, destructive force in national politics wasting valuable resources needed to strengthen what’s left of the Republican Party.

    Hi Evelyn, in general I find Furniture’s responses are in line with the posted how to walk and talk post election EDC GOP tea party guide lines and I find them obviously not original, in many causes not entirely factual and most disturbing of all, designed to disrupt. Coupled with Furniture’s personal attempts to undermine anyone he/she perceives to be an adversary or threat, quick to belittle, arrogant, disrespectful, mean spirited, officious, trivial, and his/her constant efforts trying to impose a false reality on others, boring. The election is over and the Tea Party suffered many devastating defeats. While tea party supporters in the U.S. House of Representatives remain capable of obstruction, the movement’s influence has waned among Republican leaders in Congress and the general public, and is destined to failure, Furniture, or whatever his/hers real name, seems unwilling to except these facts as does the most of the EDC GOP.

    Back from Morro Bay with the grandkids. At least Evelyn tried to stay on point here. Cookie65 — You ask (Richard) “How big should government get…?” I think it should constantly resize itself to provide the services we the people want badly enough to pay for through taxes. What we have today isn’t even discussed in those terms. A friend suggested each tax return should include a sheet that allows us to allocate our tax dollars towards specific government programs. It’s a great — if impossible — idea. The next best thing would be to hold our House member (Rep McClintock) accountable for representing our district’s preferences.
