EDITOR:

I voted against Prop 29, regardless of Ms. Carol Stone. This just set up another slush fund. I don’t smoke or do drugs. I enjoy entertainment that cost me.

As long as smokers respect me, I don’t care if they knowingly choose how they want to contribute to their death. That is no concern of mine. What does concern me are meddlers who don’t mind their own ghosts in their closets.

We all must die someday, no matter what or how. I’ve never smoked, but I have a hard time breathing. The smokers spend their own money; raising costs will not stop them. Do gooders, mind your own business. I am sick and tired of people telling me what to eat, and raising prices to deter me from buying.

Yes it will cause some smokers to think about quitting. Plus the money funds cancer research that will help cure the diseases that the smokers give themselves by smoking, and the rest of us through second and third hand smoke. They should be taxed to pay for what they cause.

Dear Ms. Falkenstein you would be correct if every smoker had health insurance that covered lung, mouth, and esophageal cancer. Unfortunately they don’t so we the public make up the difference by paying higher taxes for our community hospitals and higher hospital bills.
