Mr. G’s letter

EDITOR:

One of Mr. Garon’s recent letters criticized Sheriff John D’Agostini on his letter to VP Joe Biden.

In it he stated, retired Chief Justice Warren Burger declared in a speech, “The Second Amendment has been the subject of one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat, fraud, perpetrated on the American people by special interest groups.”

I pondered this statement for quite some time and then read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and could find no mention of any special groups — only the oft-used terms, “The right of the people” and “We the people.” So I have therefore concluded that the special interest groups were and still are,”We the people!”

Mr. G., if you can prove otherwise please be my guest. Have We the People been defrauded as Justice Burger and Mr. G. have claimed? No, not from the original meaning of the Second Amendment. However, our own government is attempting to go under the radar with executive orders to ignore the Second Amendment. With respect to the Second Amendment I think it is worthwhile to mention a short part of the preamble of the amendments to the Constitution.

And I quote, “A number of States having, at the time of adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction of abuse of its power, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses, should be added.” There are more words but I think this clearly defines the intent and purpose for the amendments.

Reading the Second Amendment, and I quote, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The right of the people equals We the People.  The amendment says what it means and means what it says.

A short lesson, Mr. G., on what infringe means — “to transgress, to neglect to obey, to destroy or hinder, encroach or trespass.” So, Mr. G., what part of the above do you not understand?

Just a few more words on the Second Amendment. Our forefathers and citizens of our country (We the People) had just beat the pants off of the tyrannical British government and its redcoated army. And again from Mr. Webster: it means with unjust exercise of power, unjustly severe as a tyrannical government. The Second Amendment was written to ensure that the people had the right to weaponry needed to defend themselves against a tyrannical government.

What say you, Mr. G??

I'm not Mr. G..... but what "TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT" are you talking about??........ The USA???..... You Think the Navy Seals are going drop down with their night vision goggles and take your guns??????? ..... Back to the REAL world.... Look at Thomas Jefferson's (according to my records he's a 'forefather') Nov. 8, 1808 'Public Statement' he said "A well-organized" militia was a defining factor in our independence (I don't think he was talking about fighting against George Washington...But you better check with the NRA. They're GOD... They KNOW!) ..... And how about his letter to Virginia ... Since the militia didn't have any "general officers" and they didn't have $$$ to pay anyone the "Governor is the head" of militia.....(Hum-- Responsibility & organized.... Nah...the NRA wouldn't like that).... But then it sounds better the way Herman and the NRA twist it around.... Right?
