Mr. Nutting, really?

EDITOR:

You accept grant money from the county to help you clear your land, all in the good name of Resource Conservation. Do you really expect the people of El Dorado County to believe that you had no influence on the funding decision? As a supervisor you serve as a representative of the county to that agency, and yet you tell us “No influence.” I have spent the last 30 years clearing my land and paying multiple people to cut and weed and clear. Never once did I receive money from a grant. And for 20 of those years I raised two kids by myself.

Tell your story to someone else, I’m not buying it.

JUDY JAMES

Not many who have common sense are buying this either. There are some political supporters who want to excuse it or justify it and attack the people investigating this. In my opinion, when you take actions to benefit yourself while holding public office and it goes to benefit your income and your property at public expense, it is time to resign so that someone who wants to work for the benefit of the taxpayers, not the opposite, can take over. What have we seen? Defense lawyers and political supporters reading talking points and writing excuses, there is no excuse.

Judy, judging GOBs guilty is a lazy tired cliché. We shall see.

Applications for grants don’t put limits on who can apply, nor should they. If you applied and didn’t receive money and you had as many acres to clear as Ray then you may have a complaint.

Ms. James: Today's arrest of Nutting pretty well vindicates your point of view and choices to eschew grants. Congratulations on your letter point out Nutting's hypocrisy.

Ms James--did you ever seek out and apply for a grant to help clear your land? I have applied for grants as an art student--no big mystery to them. All people can go online and look for grants for almost any thing one can imagine...once you get the grant--one has to make sure all the requirements are met--and all paperwork is filled in correctly. Several thousands of people may be going for the same grant. Billions of grant money goes untouched--because people do not seek them out.
