EDITOR:
I’m going to file for the petition against the illegal fire fee. I am not taking your suggestion to pay the fee first. I’m not paying illegal fees.
With all the increases in all utilities who give false numbers as an excuse to steal money from the public, there is no excuse for EID to raise my bill $20. They received a grant and spent it on a land purchase. Why? The county can use eminent domain, granting assistant tax dollars to EID in the county budget. I’m not interested in 10 years down the road. That means nothing to me; just tell me each year’s projection costs. The state legislators refused to investigate the EID. So their numbers are questionable.
Now I do understand, pay property taxes or pay the fire fee twice in one year, none of this money is projected towards El Dorado County. How come? I’m going to pay the property tax which goes up continually. This includes costs to cover fire protection. It also pays the county lawyers and supervisors. If they assisted the Shingle Springs homeowner association to fight the casino, it is now time to earn their wages and fight for El Dorado residents against the $150 fire fee that wasn’t passed by the two-thirds legislator required vote. Have you ever tried to get a government refund? I refuse to pay up front first for any illegal intimidating threat.

Sweet, let me know where you live so I can pick up your place for the price of the lien! Not paying will immediately incur a progressive series of fines and fees then they will slap a lien on your place. Have fun with that. BTW, your property tax doesn't pay for state fire protection.

Check your property tax bill, ours did not have a separate line for Fire Prevention. What is frustrating is the biggest offender of not care taking for their land is the State land all around Folsom Lake and along south fork of American River. Lake Hills is number one on the Cal Fire danger list, all because of State Lands being over grown and not accessible to fire fighting vehicles. This tax is to help pay for that type of clean up. Your comments re EID don't make sense. Why concern over grant money, it is free and therefore not an impact to the budget or rates. And they do need land for watershed protection, facilities, wetland mitigation's, easements in new growth areas, the list goes on. And your EID bill only went up $20 ??? With power, gas, medical and everything else going up that EID has to absorb the same as you and I, that is a pittance.

The legislature cut/diverted/stole $80M from CalFire's budget then solved the short fall by passing the $150/house fee which is supposed to raise $88M. However, the cost of the associated bureaucracy is about $15M. Would it not have been cheaper to ask the counties to add it to our property tax bill? Also the current round of bills is for the last fiscal year which ended this past July. We have yet to see this years bill. So keep your wallet open. What guarantees do we have that these funds will not be stolen for other purposes as well? What guarantees do we have that the money will be spent wisely on equipment, personnel and brush clearance and not on stupid full color mailers or radio ads such as the turn out the lights ad?
