Obamacare in El Dorado County

EDITOR:

While conservative Republicans try to make a political issue of Obamacare, Californians and El Dorado County citizens are enrolling for health care in 2014. Covered California is the name for Obamacare in California. It was created and run entirely by a state agency under the Department of Health and Human Services. Moreover, the department’s MediCal division is enrolling hundreds of thousands into the expanded MediCal program.

The Covered California online enrollment and on-phone enrollment have been working since Oct. 15. During that time 403,000 applications have been handled. Of these, 155,000 are eligible for subsidized premiums and 64,000 for excellent but unsubsidized policies; 180,000 more are eligible for subsidized MediCal. The Sacramento region including El Dorado County has accounted for 6 percent of these while having only 5 percent of the population.

How are people enrolling? At last word, enrollment online is 20 minutes for those prepared to make all their choices. In El Dorado county in-person enrollment counselors are available at the El Dorado Community Health Center and Marshall Medical Center. In addition 11 insurance agents are certified and anxious to help in the Placerville area, more in the entire county. The El Dorado County Human Services offices are prepared to provide counseling and then enrollment in either expanded MediCal or Covered California.

How are people finding out about their options? First is a state-wide TV advertising campaign. Next the Website coveredca.com and the phone centers 1-800-889-1506 can actually do enrollments as well as offer much advice and information. Last but not least is our group of Community Outreach Network volunteers who appear at each of the libraries and in front of Kmart, Safeway, Grocery Outlet and Walmart. Look for us there.

Thank you for the positive news. While not perfect, the Affordable Care Act is bringing health insurance to the millions of Americans who were previously uninsured. The Republicans have yet to put forward a viable alternative.

The Reps have, you just won't find it on CNN. Meanwhile, what is very misleading is you can go directly to a private ins company without going through CoveredCA. And there, you don't get asked what your income is. Better yet, for me, I will save 400/mth (as a couple) NOT going through CoveredCA. But alas, sadly, my personal premium will go up 300/mth and my annual deductible will go up 2K/yr. You call this AFFORDABLE? My income is not going up!!! In fact, it fluctuates so much, I'm beginning to wonder which direction it's going. How do people like me submit accurate income? BTW, don't you think asking for your income is discriminatory? Do you honestly believe people will put in their actual/honest income? Do you know who subsidizes all these "qualified" people? Are all of you "socially liberal" people nuts? You're destroying America and encouraging/creating losers through entitlement. Gotta go as I need to figure out what to buy for my husband. You see, we both lost our insurance plans as they were and we are now looking at a minimum of 400/mth more in premiums with less value. Wanna cover the differences?

The Republican TALK about what their alternative will look like, and then the put NOTHING up for a vote. They have no interest in health care reform.

There are so few of them that why bother? Talking to deaf ears gets tiresome. BTW, what have the conservatives been saying all this time about this new healthcare drive? It's come to fruition. Meanwhile, what really was wrong with the old way? Seems to me, the poorer people got better medical service than us hard workers who, btw, were paying for their care. On a side note, that didn't bother me as I believe everyone is entitled to health care but forcing that burden on me, the now minority, is unconstitutional. Learn from Margaret Thatcher, "the trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money."

Why no mention of the million or so in California who have had their insurance cancelled do to ocommycare? It works out to a net negative by a substantial amount. By the way one of the viable alternatives offered by those who were not permitted to participate in the creation of this utopian nightmare was to not create even more uninsured than there already were. http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2013/11/12/calif-insurance-commissioner-more-than-1m-californians-having-insurance-cancelled-due-to-obamacare/

Once again with a wave of his magic wand obama moves the goalposts of his signature embarrassment. I do love how his lapdog media wapo takes a swing at minimizing the reality of arbitrarily choosing which laws to enforce and which ones not to by describing it as "relaxing" the rules. What a freekin sham, something the left would be marching in the streets over if it were being done by anyone other than a radical leftists. http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/obama-administration-relaxes-rules-of-health-care-law-four-days-before-deadline/2013/12/19/81bc3132-690b-11e3-8b5b-a77187b716a3_story.html

That is HUGE news, Cookie. For those not bothering to click on the link, here's the basic info: The latest rule will allow consumers with a canceled health plan to claim a “hardship exemption” if they think the plans sold through new federal and state marketplaces are too expensive. The ability to get an exemption means that the administration is freeing these people from one of the central features of the law: a requirement that most Americans have health insurance as of Jan. 1 or risk a fine. The exemption gives them the choice of having no insurance or of buying skimpy “catastrophic” coverage. What does this mean: those who had individual plans are screwed either way. They have lost the affordable plans they wanted and were told they could keep! And if they want to maintain insurance, they've lost the ability to buy an affordable plan.

It is also another kick to the insurers. They have lost business from those who cost them very little in benefits, added nothing but high cost customers which will in turn cause rates to increase substantially in the next calendar year. Leftists don't have any use for math. Especially when it gets in the way of all their good intentions.

Is that supposed to be good news? Take a look at your numbers: 45% are going completely on the dole-- someone else is paying for their health insurance. Another 39% are getting someone else to pay for part of their insurance. And only 16% -- a small percentage -- are paying the full freight. Only four thousand have enrolled. Where are the millions and millions of unsured Californians who were supposed to get insurance? Millions have lost their individual plans but millions have NOT gone on Obamacare. All California has done is 1) expand those eligible to be on the dole (Medicare and subsidies) and 2) accept the original Obamacare rules for extensive, unnecessary coverage with huge deductibles and cause millions to lose the coverage they wanted. How is that a good thing? They could've left things alone and expanded Medi-cal for those who work full time jobs and can't afford medical insurance. (Notice the "work" word in there. No more freebies!)

Just a observation, but If enrollments are really going as great as Mr. McCoy says in this letter, then I wonder why they would need to stick "Obamacare California" volunteers outside all our local stores and libraries to pester folks like common panhandlers???.....Whats next, airplanes with "Hope & Change" Insignias flying over dropping "Surrender to Obamacare" leaflets on us???........

The clowns who created this disaster are pumping millions into every possible means of promoting it, including indoctrinating high school kids to run home and tell their parents and the response has been pathetic. The only measurable response has been in taxpayer funded portion. Just another example of leftist utopia dashed on the rocks of reality. This is why leftism is dependent on tyranny in order to achieve its ideals. Freedom and leftism are mutually exclusive. This Christmas I am thankful for the people who have been awakened by the onslaught of leftism and the damage it has done to this country and their willingness to speak up and act. My children's children's children thank you.

OK...how about almost 70 percent of Doctors in CA who won't take "Covered California"? Out of curiosity I called my doctor and my wife called hers. Nope. Not gonna take it sorry... SO no YOU won't BE ABLE to keep your doctor because ..he will barely make a dime. Of course the price of medical school ...well so those in there now have what incentive to be a doctor with the likes of Obamacare...? As well, doctors have to buy Malpractice insurance upwards to millions of dollars. Thanks to all the Lawyers out there and then the insurance companies ...well nuff said there. it's like a dog chasing it's tail. The system needs fixing however this Obamacare nonsense is totally flawed. Tom, just think, all those marginally educated doctors, either from countries most of us have never of, or were at the bottom of their class, will get lots more patients to "treat". There are some really bad doctors out there that either don't know what they are doing, or don't care. Most of them get weeded out by word of mouth, but if O'liarcare doesn't give us the option to choose, or the ability to afford good doctors, we are all screwed!

Can you say communism or has its use been so vilified by the left that its use makes mockery of those who choose not to repeat failed history. How cunning, yet hypocrisy leaden, is the use of capitalism, in the form store fronts, to ensnare by force of law those who know not were this path will take us. Only a misguided soul could revel in the forced ability to redistribute the labors of those who understand and practice the responsibility that built this once great and free nation.

The law of the land is protection from illegal search and seizure. The law of the land is the legislative branch makes law. The law of the land is equal representation under the law. "Law of the land" Just like abortion, separation of church and state, gay marriage, first night, In Michigan, a woman’s hair belongs to her husband. There are still laws in Pueblo, Colorado, stating that it is illegal to grow dandelions. In Kalispell, Montana, children must have a doctor’s note if they want to buy a lollipop. In Eureka, Nevada, it is illegal for men who have mustaches to kiss women. Pickles were outlawed in Los Angeles because the smell might offend people. Motorists in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, cannot park a car for more than two hours unless it is hitched to a horse. In Arizona, a man may legally beat his wife once a month, but no more. According to an Atlanta, Georgia, ordinance, “smelly people” are not allowed to ride public streetcars. or my favorite Policemen are allowed to bite a dog if they think it will calm the dog down in Paulding, Ohio. Those are all current laws of the land. How many do you abide to?

I have been following the reaction to A&E's leftist punishment to someone exercising their freedom of speech. The results are rather telling to where American's stand on the depraved, forced, loonatic, discriminatory, mental disease of leftism. Over the last 30 some hours more people have supported Phil Robertson than have signed up for ocommycare since its Titanic launch in October. Add to that one is mandated and the other is voluntary and it is no wonder why our braindead leftist friends are becoming more enraged by the day.

One of the points I make repeatedly is that the redistribution of wealth is the lifeblood of leftism/progressivism/socialism/communism/marxism. Everything else is just smoke and mirrors meant to disguise that ultimate end. A couple of current events allow me the opportunity to illustrate this infinite Truth. You have two public individuals who have identical views on alternative lifestyles. The pope and Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty. One comes out and speaks in anti-capitalistic terms and pro-redistribution of wealth and is named person of the year in Time magazine. The other does not and is fired from his vocation as a cable show personality. Making the case beyond a reasonable doubt that if you support the single motivation of leftism, the redistribution of wealth everything else you say, do or believe is given a pass. If you do not support the redistribution of wealth you are to be cast down and punished for even expressing a personally held belief, something guaranteed under the 1st Amendment. The religion of leftism OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY.

One that people like me don't have any time or interest in. Moral fiber? Please enlighten me on how you determine what some individuals moral fiber is. Is it based on the same empty shell standards you set for obama? He said all the words you wanted to hear so you turned off what little brain you have? The rest of your nonsense is just the same old strawman dink nonsense which does not address my point. GLAAD had an instant and outspoken condemnation over what Phil Robertson had to say but they were extremely tolerant of what Alec Baldwin did. Care to share with us your reasoning for such a slanted response? Let me give you a hint. Alec Baldwin is a supporter, at least vocally of the redistribution of wealth so he also gets a pass for his insane, threatening and violent outbursts.

You will or should be amazed at the difference between the two. Study closely the topics spelled out in each. That should give you a good idea of the "balance" and why you should be following FOX to better educate yourself. Born and raised Californian. Open to change and what works. That's why I believe in free market capitalism. People who are like little dinkie are progressive by definition-happening or developing gradually or in stages; proceeding step by step. OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA from DML Dear Mr. President, At a time when your approval numbers are shrinking and millions of Americans are losing their health insurance because of the Affordable Care Act, I think heading off to Hawaii for Christmas could end up being a public relations nightmare for you. Do not fret, I have an idea. When you land in Maui, tell the limo driver to go towards Wailea. Drive until you see the road to Lahaina. Take the turn. Immediately on the left is a sidewalk leading to a forest of palm trees, stop the limo! Get out and apply lots of bug spray. Then walk through the forest until you see two empty shopping carts. Look for the sign that reads, 'Welcome to Tent City' (just kidding, there is no sign). Be prepared Mr. President, you're no longer in paradise. Hold your nose and reapply the bug spray. The first tent is occupied by a lovely African American lady who voted for you. You can't miss her. She's in her late 30's; bugs will be all around her head. Her name is Amanda. She works P/T as a security guard but it pays little. She can't afford an apartment. Please tell her I say hello. She'll remember me: http://youtu.be/Ao8RHMiVVSw The next tent belongs to Steven. He's a 43 year old white guy wearing a Hawaiian shirt. He too has bugs on his head. He too voted for you. He lost his construction job two years ago due to layoffs. He couldn't find a replacement job and so he lost his home. Sadly, he now drinks himself to sleep every night. He says his life is destroyed. Here is a video of Steven: http://youtu.be/6W9_6RimFr0 Mr. President, after playing golf see if you can do something for your voters. After all, they are American citizens. Idea... Why not call the media and tell them you're visiting the 14 Americans living in Tent City? Shine your light on the out-of-work Americans who are barely surviving. Do what you did a few weeks ago during Thanksgiving weekend when you shined your light on the well-dressed, finely groomed illegal aliens who were living in a cushy tent outside the Capital building? You took a picture with them, remember? Here's the picture: latino.foxnews.com/latino/politics/2013/11/29/obama-first-lady-meet-with-protesters-fasting-for-immigration-reform/ Last bit of advise... I took my family with me to visit Tent City. I thought the wife and kids needed to see what is taking place in America. I told them a real leader would never allow such a thing to continue, so perhaps you'll act like a president and visit them? Take the First Lady and the kids with you to Tent City, allow them to see what's happening in daddy's home state. Either way, God bless, enjoy your trip and watch out for the sharks. And Sir, when you meet Steven don't be sarcastic with him. For example, no jokes like, "Hey pal, you get what you vote for." I don't think he'll laugh. None of us are laughing right now. Respectfully, DML PS - I am one of the 6 Million people who lost their health plan because of Obamacare. I'm trying to get a new plan on healthcare.gov but the site is down (I'll spare you the link). You can make it up to me by LIKING my page. Go to www.Facebook.com/DMLdaily. You might learn something.

DML, beautiful, just beautiful. Too bad BO won't see it. Thanks. Now, to go back to searching for healthcare as my husband and I have lost ours and the only thing out there will double our premiums and raise our deductibles and out of pocket expenses. I feel so suppressed and depressed.

The letter writer states that "Californians and El Dorado County citizens are enrolling for health care in 2014." To this I say, "citizens" don't have to purchase healthcare insurance at the command of their government, subjects do.

Pretty funny isn't it? I typically discuss a number of topics, all of them pointing to the destruction created by the depravity of leftism. They could pick anyone and offer what ever defense they can invent but this is what they offer instead. Do you know why Phil? It is actually quite simple. They truly don't have a road map of how they came to believe what they have been trained to believe so they have no means of conveying points of discovery or evidence from a personal perspective. I discovered a long time ago that they think in talking points because talking points are what they have been trained to believe. When you take their talking points away they have nothing left. They don't even know why they believe the nonsense they believe. They cannot trace any independent thought or critical thinking that led them to their conclusions. There are no points of discovery along the way. Only groupthink. They didn't reach any conclusions, they were led to them. This is also the reason they resort to their o!d standbys of racism, bigotry, hate, uncompassionate, greedy, tinfoil hat, and all the other terms meant to cover up their complete inability to express a thought process. They are intellectually unarmed. The most unfortunate part is they reject overwhelming evidence that undermines everything that they have been trained to believe and continue to defend the lie of leftism. If this 3rd world banana republic incompetent, unfit for the office, master of disaster, obama regime in the Whitehouse doesn't cause them to even question the destruction of leftism then what will?

These useful idiots posting pro-obama who actually have never had a chip in the game are managed by the Chicago syndicate, even Obama is a puppet. This isn't political Left vs Right. It is all about a complete and total take over. A creation of a new society of haves and have nots. A dictatorship ignoring all laws. This group is so incompetent it makes me wonder if they do it on purpose. Testing to see just how far they can go before creating open revolt. Forcing people out of the best health care in the world to purchase a lessor care that the syndicate is not subjected to. I ask you all how many have a college graduate that is either unemployed or severely underemployed with unsustainable student loan debt? The government is the only bank that can make student loans. Now the government has mandated that our healthy children purchase crappy medical insurance that the can't afford. Is it only a coincidence that the Obama administration seized these institutions. Why? Power, the ability to creat winners and losers. I don't think it's the paid phoney posters of the democratic party like dink lane or the fat cat posters who haven't been productive in over half a century making 6 figure retirements that care about our young working class. This is just an embarrassment. Our children deserve better. It's obvious to everyone that can see that our government is assaulting our children. We know better we know what needs to be done.

Inheriting $20 trillion in debt from those who claim compassion for the children. The most vile form of taxation without representation. Buying votes and political power with money stolen from the unborn. And they have the unmitigated gall to label anyone who opposes them as selfish and greedy. It is a total mindf**k.

Concern for their pocketbook yet none for their actual health. As I look at the elderly, I would much rather have health than wealth. Have neighbors who are very wealthy yet have been bed ridden for years. Yikes! It is like worrying about paying your PGE bill when your house is in forclosure.

It was discovered that the five Obamacare enrollees for the District of Columbia cost the taxpayers a hefty $26.7 million each. Other states have seen similar waste, one source estimating that the cost for all enrollees nationwide had been $14,000 each.

Retired government employees never paid for their unfunded retirements. It was a by design, Ponzi scheme based on passing the cost onto future employees. When it was clear that the pyramid's base had reached it's maximum and is imploding, the designers and managers solution was to build the pyramid even bigger. Ignore the reality that the government employee sweetheart deals could not be sustained. Never admit that it was a failure and destroy everyone at all cost. Read Reagon's and Robert's response to reality. Change the subject and sarcasm. They are either a have fat cat retiree or have a disconnect to reality. For it is impossible for anyone living in today's world to not see the reality that the bridge over the chasm of poverty and a comfortable life has, at the very least, been reduced to a single "preferred people only" lane. The elite's pass laws imposing taxes and burdens that they do not subject themselves, friends and allies to. Their excuse for doing this is that it would make their own work places noncompetitive and unfair? To hell with everyone else. People defending the Chicago syndicate's behavior must be challenged. We have seen out in our community paid professionals in front of our stores checking to see who has signed up for Obama care. How many are paid to post in this paper? Isn't it time for our children's sake to challenge stupidity? Isn't it time to say no?

Just watched my neighbors 3 children, arrive for their weekend “visit”to their sickly parents, who have always gotten along before, get into a huge verbal altercation, saying horrible things to each other. Mostly about who hasn't pulled their far share in the constant care of their parents. In spite of money, nurses, health care workers, gardeners and maids there is still much (personal) things to do. All the money in the world yet the legacy is three siblings who will probably never see each other upon parents demise. Sad.

Nixon, what does a dysfunctional family have to do with Obamacare? And how in the world could anyone who isn't on the dole call it affordable health care? I would love to hear from just one EDC taxpayer who is paying the full freight of it via the CA exchange. No subsidies, no welfare. Just one person. So far, we've heard from people whose underemployed middle-aged children are getting subsidies and who "know people who know people" who are now on Medi-Cal. But where are the millions of young people in California who were supposedly going to rush out and sign up? Last I heard, we had 64,000 Californians signed up to pay the full freight, and millions who were cancelled and who are now supposed to sign up for a modified catastrophic plan. That modified catastrophic plan is what should've been offered in the first place. For those of you who are posting comments without knowing anything about the plans, it's a high deductible plan with free preventive benefits. That means you have to have some skin in the game to get covered for major care -- which is no different than having a high deductible (which is what the cheaper Obamacare plans had).

Evidently I have been drinking dirty water, breathing polluted air, eating genetically engineered food and sucking up all the carcinogens available for all my life. I’m 73. With all the sorry garbage Nixon has laid down I should have kicked the bucket years ago. I guess some people have an unnatural desire to control everyone’s life by spouting BS.

God has given to men all that is necessary for them to accomplish their destinies. He has provided a social form as well as a human form. And these social organs of persons are so constituted that they will develop themselves harmoniously in the clean air of liberty. Away, then, with quacks and organizers! A way with their rings, chains, hooks, and pincers! Away with their artificial systems! Away with the whims of governmental administrators, their socialized projects, their centralization, their tariffs, their government schools, their state religions, their free credit, their bank monopolies, their regulations, their restrictions, their equalization by taxation, and their pious moralizations! And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgment of faith in God and His works.

Another successful Dem state Obamacare start----Maryland gubernatorial candidate Doug Gansler is incensed over the botched rollout of Affordable Care Act. He’s aghast at chronic problems with Maryland’s online enrollment platform and stunned that a state with “literally the smartest people in the country” would have hired a company from North Dakota, of all places, to help put its exchange in place. The whole spectacle, Gansler fumes, “is almost like a Saturday Night Live skit.” The punch line: Gansler, Maryland’s current attorney general, is a Democrat. Successful Californian coverage?-----Thousands of Californians have overcome long waits and website glitches to sign up for Obamacare insurance, but now enrollment snags may prevent some of them from actually having coverage starting Jan. 1. Some people who picked a health plan as far back as October through the Covered California exchange say insurers are telling them they still have no record of their enrollment. As a result, bills haven't gone out and consumers can't pay their initial premium to ensure coverage takes effect in less than three weeks. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-enrollment-limbo-20131213,0,3581548.story#ixzz2oJbv8ZCg
