Obamacare scorecard

EDITOR:

Let’s see how we’re doing here. Picture this; you are on hold listening to scratchy music or worse, a recording extolling the virtues of Obamacare while you wait for authorization from a government gatekeeper for emergent care. Oops, your call got dropped or you hear, “I’m not at my desk now, but if you’ll leave your number, I’ll get back to you next week;” or “This mailbox is full.” Oh joy.

The non-functional Website aside, let’s see how we’re doing with Obamacare.

• “Your health care insurance costs will drop by $2,500.” Negative.
• “If you like your insurance, you can keep it.” Negative.
• “If you like your doctor, you can keep him.” Negative.
• “The ACA Website is fixed.” Negative.
• Premiums up? Check.
• Deductibles up? Check.
• Out-of-pocket copayments up? Check
• Funds scavenged from MediCare for seniors into Obamavare, decreasing coverage for seniors? Check.
• Additional medical device tax? Check (on top of fee-for-services).

How’s this working for ya?

If you’re still sitting there with a smug grin on your face because you still have insurance through your employer, you’re next. The same law that has wreaked carnage on individual health care insurance is headed your way. Obama has unilaterally delayed this part of the train wreck until after the next election to try to salvage the Democrat majority in the Senate, get the majority in the House and save Obamacare.

The next elections are critical for health care and for this whole country. If you have been disconnected from this debacle or have stopped paying any attention to politics and even if you’re not a one-issue voter, get off your butt and get re-registered to vote and show up at the poles this next election and the next. We have to remove anyone who voted for Obamacare (ACA) so that there is some shred of hope to turn this plane-train-boat crash around.

I could drag on about the illegality of Obama manipulating parts of Obamacare (now the law) without Congressional approval and the fact that more and more people are against Obamacare as they are personally stricken with its effects. For the sake of brevity I’ll stop with asking this question. Is this the health care and the political state you want to bequeath your children/grandchildren? We’re talking about lives here.

Ms. Dean, to answer your question, no it is not the healthcare we want to bequeath to our children/grandchildren -- what we want to bequeath is Medicare For All.

dinky, you never answer my question about pre-existing conditions. How come dinky? How did insurers who deny people based on pre-existing conditions get licensed to do business every single year? If it was as simple as passing legislation to correct it why did the compassionate left wait 30 years to do it? How come no public sector union job has any such thing as pre-existing conditions? Using it to bait the hook for a government takeover of healthcare illustrates what a fish they think you are. And you prove them correct in their assessment.

Dink, who do you work for or how did you do it? So very curious. check. I, and my husband, lost ours, we can't find anything less than 1200/mth with a 6K deductible and higher out of pocket expenses. check. I would bet you're a clock puncher. Meaning, you work for someone else and only have to worry when to show up for work. You get a regular paycheck, you know how much it is and your employer is responsible for your insurance programs offered. I and my husband, on the other hand, are sole proprietors. We, the small business owners of this country (the ones that really supply jobs), were the first on the "hit list" of our beloved *#@$* in office. Besides being discriminatory, it's outright illegal for it's unconstitutional. Because we cannot afford 1200+/mth, we are not insured now. Isn't it ironic that those who didn't or couldn't have insurance now do and those of us who did have insurance, don't? I wonder who's paying for their premiums under the entitlements offered? I ask for your prayers for I and my husband are in our early 60's with no (affordable) medical insurance NOW and raising 3 young grandkids (due to death). Think: added expenses. Lucky for you and those like you, we are strong and forgiving of the ill-informed.....to a point.

Marcia, there is one single thing in common with all those who defend, support and even misrepresent this 5 year catastrophe and his signature legislation. Every last one of them are clutching on to some entitlement that the taxpayers pay for. They are defending their ill-gotten gain at the expense of others by pretending to be compassionate. NOT one of them pay their own way. I know countless people in your exact position. dink couldn't care less about you, about the people with pre-existing conditions, about the 92 million who can't find a job, about the 48 million on food stamps, the unborn who are inheriting $20 trillion in debt, all he cares about is protecting his entitlement. Leftism is pure selfishness.

Marcia: Subsidized premiums up to 400% above the poverty level... (1 person --> $12,000/yr) (Family of 4 --> $24,000/yr) TIMES 4 = (1 person $48,000) (4 persons $96,000).... On Covered CA.... Kaiser premium $450 a month (subsidized so don't pay all) and $40 co pay to see the doctor..... Please, Marcia check it out.... I don't know what site you went on.... $1200? Was that Anthem-Blue-Shield's site??? .... I heard they were OVER-CHARGING on their personal website.... Check out the open market.... It's Covered CA....

I lost my insurance when my husband became ill. He was taken out of work and put on social security disability. I have been denied insurance since because of a pre-existing condition. And......My husband was put on medicare but denied a secondary insurance because of a pre-existing condition. I basically work to pay doctor bills. So yes I am happy happy happy that I can now get insurance and my husband can get secondary insurance. But......I totally agree with James Medicare for all!

I am always stunned by the anger against "Obamacare" ..... Do you want Health care ACCESS?? If you wreck your motorcycle (and there are plenty of kids wrecking them up here on the Divide)..... and NOT one has said "Don't come and pick up my broken body"..... NOT ONE in the 30 years I have been up here...... IF they don't have it.... Yes, we BILL them....sue them..... and OFTEN we don't get paid.... and YOURs and MINE "Emergency Room" and "Hospitals" cover that loss.... the taxpayer pays the ambulance..... IF you like that system you can have it.... Pay the $95 fine for this year (IRS has NO way to collect it)...... You can chuck it -- "Drudge" has coverage.... He wants YOU to chuck it ....... I don't care.... but YOU shouldn't have the RIGHT to stop other people from getting access..... and over 13 MILLION people were BLOCKED by Insurance companies.... Insurance Companies wanted the TAXPAYER to keep picking up the bill with the -- Emergency Room Health care plan....... So tell me ............ WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO ""YOU"" THAT OTHER PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE COVERAGE? ........ (Cap are for those readers who don't catch the important words.... No anger here... I want health care ...... and I got health care ..... and YOU aren't paying my bills.)

Dink, WRONG...we are....the ones whose premiums doubled to cover those of you whose didn't because you either lied about your income or you do make less than the amounts determined. Either way, if you have any long term visuals, also known as critical thinking skills, you would know that is what your leader has wanted all along....to redistribute the wealth. Hence, other people are covering what you can't...or won't.

Phil, Just an FYI only because I have always felt bad for the hit Quayle got for his supposed misspelling of potato(e)s. My education came from the midwest...many moons ago. Back then, we were taught that it was perfectly ok to spell the plural of potato (Quayle's "shackle"), either potatos or potatoes. I chose the latter for some forgotten reason; and I still spell it this way. Quayle was taken for a ride by bullies but took the high road by not debating it. Yeah for him.

Health care is fine, but you wouldn’t need it if the cost of being hospitalized wasn’t so damn expensive. It cost 6 grand for a ride to the hospital, another five for setting in the emergency room. What happen to the dream of having affordable health care for all not just the ones that can’t afford it? Between pharmaceuticals and insurance companies and there in the pocket politicians we lose regardless of coverage.

I have also been wondering whether our representative form of government can survive a corrupt media. It can survive corrupt politicians, but can it survive a populace so dumbdown and misinformed that it will continue to support the notion of reaping without sowing? If we can all reap without sowing like the left promotes then wouldn't sowing be an utter waste of time? The clown in chief has begun his national tour of class warfare depicting those who provide for themselves as the enemy of those who don't and appealing to the lowest hanging fruit. The latest jobs numbers truly reflect leftist economic beliefs. If there was a repub in the whitehouse orchestrating this destruction of America do you suppose James and dinky would be making excuses for them? One cannot be a rabid leftists without also being totally devoid of intellectual honesty.

For fun, read this, as it parallels Obama and his determination to "redistribute the wealth" through healthcare as well. Economist Donald Boudreaux in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Dec. 25: Suppose that Jones chooses a career as a poet. Jones treasures the time he spends walking in the woods and strolling city streets in leisurely reflection; his reflections lead him to write poetry critical of capitalist materialism. Working as a poet, Jones earns $20,000 annually. Smith chooses a career as an emergency-room physician. She works an average of 60 hours weekly and seldom takes a vacation. Her annual salary is $400,000. Is this "distribution" of income unfair? Is Smith responsible for Jones' relatively low salary? Does Smith owe Jones money? If so, how much? And what is the formula you use to determine Smith's debt to Jones? While Dr. Smith earns more money than does poet Jones, poet Jones earns more leisure than does Dr. Smith. Do you believe leisure has value to those who possess it? If so, are you disturbed by the inequality of leisure that separates leisure-rich Jones from leisure-poor Smith? Do you advocate policies to "redistribute" leisure from Jones to Smith—say, by forcing Jones to wash Smith's dinner dishes or to chauffeur Smith to and from work? If not, why not?

Down with Libs, the comments indicate that they didn't have running water either and their landlord is a known slumlord. They should have been moved by the zone enforcement folks at the expense of landlord. The mayor is a Democrat. The tragedy of the little guys is played out all to often in jurisdictions where corruption is the norm.

I have seen many slumlords...I helped one leave in handcuffs down south. It had nothing to do with "parties" -it had to do with tenant rights...and his abuse of them. Another one lost her right to even enter the building. In all fairness--I also helped an owner win a major rent strike where out of 64 units...only 12 were allowed to stay.

Speaking of hypocrites-------Smoking kills more people than obesity, substance abuse, infectious disease, firearms, and traffic accidents, according to the CDC. Some 443,000 Americans die from smoking-related illnesses every year, according to the U.S. Department of Health. Can you imagine what insurance premiums would be if smoking were outlawed. --------- If Liberals were serious about healthcare, they would outlaw smoking. With ObamaCare, non-smokers are footing the cost in increased premiums as well as carrying the brunt of healthcare cost, because of smokers. ------------ Knowing the effects of smoking on the health and pocketbooks of Americans, Liberals won’t give up the revenue from smoking plants, and in fact are upping the ante in some states by allowing pot smoking. ----- Read more at http://theblacksphere.net/2014/01/smoking-liberals/#8RDodvm5GlGBvjqu.99---------in all fairness this also true of the Republican elite and just a result of crony capitalism.

"down with Libs" says: "Those three in Chicago died like many have in the past, waiting for Obama to save them."....... Really? Do you really think CHILDREN knew about Pres. Obama? Do you really think CHILDREN wanted to be WITHOUT electricity? or running water? .... The farmers in Kern County back in 1930 said something like that.... [when he cut payment to his pickers from 10 cents a bucket to 5 cents a bucket in MID-DAY.] ..... "If you don't like it you can starve"..... and 100s of people did just 400 miles from here .... That's what a 3rd-World Society does to it's people.... I thought people left Europe to get away from IRELAND'S children starving .. and I've NEVER believe in self-serving "Ayn Rand" type of philosophy who believed in loving ONLY rich people... I pray that good Christian people stand up to people who only care about what is in their hand ....

dinky, the potato famine in Ireland is a great lesson for someone as misinformed as you. Contrary to what you think you know, the people of Ireland, in spite of the potato blight grew enough food to feed themselves roughly 7 times over. But it was confiscated and redistributed to the British empire. "In Ireland Before and After the Famine Cormac O’Grada documents that in 1845, a famine year in Ireland, 3,251,907 quarters (8 bushels = 1 quarter)) of corn were exported from Ireland to Britain. That same year 257,257 sheep were exported to Britain. In 1846, another famine year, 480,827 swine and 186,483 oxen were exported to Britain. Cecil Woodham-Smith, considered the preeminent authority on the Irish Famine, wrote in The Great Hunger; Ireland 1845-1849 that, "...no issue has provoked so much anger or so embittered relations between the two countries (England and Ireland) as the indisputable fact that huge quantities of food were exported from Ireland to England throughout the period when the people of Ireland were dying of starvation."

I was talking about Los angeles. Thanks for the article. They tried to keep dogs away from the LA river...like many places. But an LA lawyer found where Mr. Griffith put in his will--that if horses are impeded at all....all his lands leave the cities hands. LA Zoo is in that land area...big scandal. My friends can now walk their dogs again in certain areas--because if a horse can poop where it wants so can Ramon--the little terrier. I watch Los Angeles all the time...my home town--it is how I know what people are trying up here.Los Angeles does not want to be New York...they just like visiting there. My friends are mostly visual and performing artists. They believe the West coast rocks better than the East coast...it has been a war for as long as I can remember. Smart growth in LA seems redundant...they already did "walkable" communities...they are called projects, gated communities, and senior villages.

Kelly, I beg you pardon as I watched the end of an interview with a correspondent, young white guy with black hair. They both sat in a quiet, small appearing room, as she was interviewed. Date unknown. It was early on when candidates were popping up. He asked her that question at the end of the interview. Now, because I fell upon this interview while surfing, it could be a daughter of the Kings. Upon looking them up, it could easily have been Yolanda. All I know, the BLACK female interviewed was a King and she, hesitantly, shook her head softly and said in a quiet voice, "no" when asked if she was going to vote for Obama. I was (pleasantly) shocked. Do not ever call me a liar. I am just so sorry I can't produce what I saw or heard.

Not a demonstration, not random violence because a video, not some guys just out for a walk. It is now reported that within just minutes of the attack occurring they were specifically told it was positively with out a doubt a terrorist attack meaning both Hillary and Obama purposefully made up a lie for political reasons and are now caught in their own lie. Remember how both stood in front of the coffins of dead service men and lied to the entire Nation. Hillary's done.

Hey Downer, A 46-year-old Michigan member of the group Tea Party Patriots was named Tuesday in a criminal complaint on charges of distributing and receiving illicit photos and video of children. According to The Smoking Gun, Brian Schwanke is accused of using the email account “h*rnypastor@outlook.com” to send and receive hundreds of provocative images of underage children. TSG detailed how as recently as last week, Schwanke was ranting on his Facebook page about President Barack Obama’s behavior during a portion of the funeral for South Africa’s Nelson Mandela. The image of Obama posing for a “selfie” next to the Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt seemed to particularly rile Schwanke. “What a classy president we have,” he wrote. “His wife has to sit between him to make ‘lil Barry’ behave.” Schwanke’s profile — which has now been either deleted or made private — proclaimed that the U.S. “WAS founded on a CHRISTIAN foundation, and the progressive, atheist left is running us into the ground to create a Socialist country that will fall like all the others.” In spite of his straitlaced, conservative public persona, however, Schwanke was posing online as a pastor and youth minister with less-than-holy intentions toward the young girls of his flock. In the persona of “h*rnypastor,” Schwanke claimed to have been a youth minister for 20 years, telling one correspondent, “with my pool at my house I find lots of chances to ‘counsel’ the girls Ya like that to?

Patrice said, "Many years ago I was a Republican until I realized they were not interested in “we the people” middle class. " I find this polar opposite as much of the middle class are the small business owners that truly know and feel the pain of all the Democrat lead mandates (ie ADA). Yet, they vote the conservative ticket for rightful reasons. I vote conservative because most all Conservatives fully understand what it takes to run a business, both big and/or small, and how these mandates are killing them. Most of them came from that environment. The large companies find solutions such as moving their company to a less hostile environment; little businesses can't. All they can do is close down shop and hope for a new and profitable business is found or created. Or, they climb onto the dole wagon per no choice or want of their own. It's the Democrats, who no fault of their own as their history dictates they were "clock punchers", create a hostile environment for the middle class. Sadly, the "rich" that the Dems seem to hang on as their outcry are not most of us, it's the world of entertainment, professional sports and young entrepeneurs starting up new internet gimmicks; throw in the Gates', Buffets, Soros' (the latter two sleep in bed with our leader), etc. BTW, do not forget about all the wealthy Dems out there as well (ie Clintons). How did they get there that's different from the "bad Republicans"? Also, just curious, define "wealthy". Who are these people and how much should they be making to enter into this category? In the end, I have said since my high school days, many years ago, that we should get rid of party identification because there are too many voters out there that vote a straight ticket line without knowing a darned thing about the candidates. It's killing America. I also hate the electoral vote. I have yet to get anyone to explain to me why this is better than the popular vote. Stepping off my podium now to get a drink of water.
