Our community needs to do the right thing

EDITOR:

This is tough for me to admit but I guess I don’t know everything. For instance, I attended a golf tournament that I thought was to benefit Sam Lacara’s wife and children. I found out that it didn’t. So I am calling out my friends, leaders of our community, you know who you are, to join me in putting together a fundraiser for his family. I will be contacting all of you soon and I think we need to get something done this holiday season. So don’t leave town until you hear from me. They need our support as well as our love. We as a community need to do the right thing now.

  1. Chuck Holland says:

Ken, I’ll be there to help you.

  2. Trish says:

    Mr. Steers
As for the golf tournament that you are talking about half of the money raised with directly to Mrs. LaCara and the other half went to schnell school to help continue Sam’s work at the school. Sam was always buying children new shoes, paying for student lunch’s etc. That is where the first year golf tournament funds went.

  3. Ken Steers says:

Trish, I know that the money I donated was directed toward the Lacara family. We need to do something directly for them! I’ll see you at the Christmas shopping spree for the kids.

  4. Richard Buckholtz says:

What is Mr Steers’ problem? He writes a letter saying the money did not go to the family, then in the comments acknowledges that it did. Some people just like to whine.

  5. Ken Steers says:

    Mr Buckholtz,
No fund raiser has been done specifically for the Lacara family. The well intentioned golf tournament was for, as my very good friend Trish Sweeney stated, toward the Schnell School. I mandated that the monies my family contributed go directly to the family. With that said, I think Eldorado County as a community needs to do something. So I’m going to tell you Richard, for every dollar you donate for this cause. I pledge to double it. Give me a call. I’m easy to find. And may you and yours have a Very Merry Christmas

  6. jenkins' says:

mr buckholtz, read between the lines before you call mr.steers a whiner:

The golf tourny money didn’t go where he thought. His direct donation did

  7. Tyson Escobar says:

    Ken,

I am in- this is the best time to do it!
