Toys for Tots really does make a child’s dreams come true. My daughter and I were invited by St. Patrick’s church in Placerville to pull a tag off the giving tree and fulfill a child’s wishes. We did just that, pulling a tag for a 15-year-old girl (my daughter is the same age). While the tag had sizes for clothing, it had this at the bottom: bike and bike helmet. My daughter and I both agreed, “Wow. Wouldn’t it be incredible if we could give this girl a bike?” But how? My question was directly answered when I met Sue Henderson at a local spin class. Asking the group of cyclists at the gym if anyone knew of a way to get hold of a bike for this child, Sue said, “I can do it!” Sue is the coordinator with the local Toys for Tots. She received a bike donation, and is able to pass that onto the parish teenager whom we would like to help. She really did make not just this young girl’s dream come true, but ours as well. I’m very, very happy to have become acquainted with Sue. She and her organization bring tremendous joy and hope to our local community. I encourage everyone to support this worthy organization, either through donations of toys, through funding, or by personally helping with their toy drives.
