Pass it forward

On Sunday I took my elderly neighbor out to dinner for Mother’s Day. We had a glass of champagne and a wonderful meal at one of the nicest restaurants in town. At the table next to us was a large family out for Mother’s Day as well. We chatted a little about this and that. They were all so cheerful, fun and the kind of people who make you feel as if you have always known them. Then my guest and I resumed our dinner and, while enjoying our dinner and coffee, the owner came by to let us know that our dinner had been taken care of and that our tab was paid for anonymously. We knew that it had to be from the people next to us since we didn’t know anyone else and before leaving we told them that we knew and how thankful and blessed we were.

The reason I am sharing this is because lately the news is filled with such despicable acts committed by those who have totally lost their sense of right and wrong. But, despite all the evil we hear about, there are also many good, kind, selfless and generous people among us who go unnoticed and perform random acts of kindness towards strangers.

I am so touched and this will stay with me as one of those “Pass it forward” kind of things.
