Patton wrong person for City Council

EDITOR:

I take issue with your endorsement of Carol Patton for City Council.

On Monday, Oct. 1, The League of Women Voters held a forum at town hall will all three prospective candidates. Carol Patton stated that she is still in favor of the roundabout and redevelopment. When she responded to the question about annexation of island neighborhoods, Smith Flat and Motor City, her answer was, “Why wouldn’t people want to be part of such a wonderful city?”

Well here is why:

1. My property would be rezoned from R1 to commercial, would this help me on a sale of my home? I think not!
2. The people now in the county would have to get rid of their farm animals if they were annexed. Loss of rural life.
3. I have a 50+-year-old septic tank; if it fails the county would let me rebuild it, the city would make me hook up to the sewer. Big cost to me, plus monthly charges forever.

Placerville needs to be more forward not backwards; therefore I feel Carol Patton is the wrong person for City Council.

I agree with the Mountain Democrat endorsement of Carol Patton for City Council. I have known Carol for over 20 years, and have been impressed with her commitment to Placerville. As a Planning Commissioner, Carol studied the issues, asked the right questions, had high expectations for new development, well thought out reasons for her decisions, and treated everyone with respect. As a community member, Carol has given of her time and talents to beautify and protect Placerville, and enhance our sense of community. Instead of complaining, Carol has always been there to help.

  2. Evelyn Veerkamp says:

One question asked of City Council candidates earlier this month at the LWV candidates’ forum was whether they favored incentivizing businesses with taxpayer money. Each candidate said “No”. But that left me puzzled. Redevelopment, which Carol had vigorously supported, would have diverted a portion of the property taxes we pay to private developers. So my question to Carol is: “Did you not understand this, or have you changed your mind?”

I so love a sore winner!

  4. shirley says:

Carol Patton is a supporter, best friends, compatriot or the convicted ex Placerville Mayor FELON Dave Machado. Carol Patton was for Redevelopment which cost the City of Placerville a bundle (this was AFTER Jerry Brown was putting an end to Crony Capitalism of Redevelopment). Carol Patton was FOR the Roundabout which also cost the City of Placerville and which was STOPPED by court action instituted by the good citizens of Placerville. Carol Patton was AGAINST the increase in the sales tax downtown (1/4 of a percent) which was SUPPORTED by the People of Placerville overwhelmingly. Carol Patton is symptomatic of the failed previous governments of Placerville. It’s time for some new blood on the City Council.

  5. Kathi Lishman says:

Shirley and Foaming at the Mouth, I do wish you would sign your real names.

I know that Carol Patton would be a council member the citizens of Placerville could be proud of.

  6. Be Careful says:

Barry’s issue is with the long discussed and finally completed annexation and that was not a single person decision. Voting against someone with the “anybody but …..” approach is not always a thoughtful move. The result, in this case, is endorsing the other two candidates regardless of their qualifications and experience. Sounds a lot like that hope and change thing. No thank you….
