My wife and I have had the PERS long-term care insurace for 15 years. We thought that being proactive in our late 40s would be a responsible thing to do. Our current premium is $290 a month. A letter from PERS came last week stating that our premium will increase by 85 percent in 2014 and 5 percent each year after that. This does not seem ethical. They will send different options with less coverage soon. This policy covers thousands of current and past employees. I contacted my senator, but was told that this was a collective bargaining issue. When we bought this policy we were told that the premium would be locked in. We are being penalized for being responsible.
