Placerville City Council election

EDITOR:

Mayor Mark Acuna, Vice Mayor Wendy Mattson and Council Members Carl Hagen and Patty Borelli are highly respected in our community. While I may not agree with every decision they make, I believe they are well intentioned and have the City’s best interest at heart.

These are difficult times, and unfortunately it is easy for people to be negative and mean spirited. There is a small group of people who regularly attend Council meetings, complain about everything, and claim to be a “watch dog” for the City. I am insulted by their grandiose claims to represent all of Placerville. Some of them do not even live in the City. None of them represent me.

They are supporting Trisha Wilkins for City Council. Perhaps they think that by tearing down the other two candidates, it will make her look better. If you watched the City Council Debate, it was obvious that while Wilkins is well meaning, she is in over her head.

Problems are easy to identify. Solutions are not. I long for citizens who do research, have documentable facts for their reasons, and propose innovative solutions. Placerville has adjusted and thrived for over 150 years because of it’s ability to change, reinvent itself, and meet the needs of the community.

As for the City Council race, I am supporting George Lowry and Carol Patton, as I believe they are in touch with the needs of our community, have the expertise and the knowledge to solve problems, and will look for the solutions. These are the leaders Placerville needs to move forward.

A vote for Carol Patton is a vote for the convicted FELON Dirty Dave Machado exMayor of Placerville and just a real fine friend of Carol Patton. The current concoction of nimrods on the City Council have led to the Roundabout Boondoggle which was stopped by the business in Placerville by filing a lawsuit. Carol Patton waa an ardent supporter of the failed Redevelopment scam which cost Placerville PLENTY! Even after it was apparent that Jerry Brown was going to kill Redevelopment as Crony Capitalism...VOTE FOR CHANGE from the current corrupt bunch of nincompoops who supposedly have plenty of experience...Experience in corruption, malfeasance, incompetence...

Hi Sarah. I started attending City Council meetings several years ago, have become acquainted with other regular attendees, and may well be one of those you have in mind when writing. None of us ever have pretended to represent anyone other than ourselves. Certainly we make no claim to represent all of Placerville! And we couldn’t agree more with you about the value of citizens doing research and having documentable facts for their reasons. As a matter of fact, sometimes I am staggered by the amount of research various members of the public have done and continue to do, preparatory to City Council meetings. Perhaps what you find discomfiting is the fact sometimes we conclude differently from what you might. Surely you wouldn’t deny us that.

Oh, Shirley, if only you had a last name, I could write you in on my ballot. We need five City Council members like you so badly!

Face it, Placerville has squandered thousands of dollars on outlandish schemes such as Redevelopment, the move of City Hall, Planters, insane Roundabouts. Some have even used the City Council as a private scam to enhance themselves but have been caught and CONVICTED of a FELONY and FOREVER banned from public office, mainly Carol Patton's good friend and compatriot Dirty Dave Machado exMayor of Placerville. A vote for Carol Patton is a vote ensure that the VENAL politics of the past carry on into the future.

Sarah asserts that current City Councilors are well intentioned and have the City’s best interest at heart. I would not say differently. What I would assert, however, is that there exists amongst them a remarkable unanimity and coincidence of purpose, aligned with positions conveyed to them via City of Placerville staff documents. Some months back I tallied Council votes over the entire preceding 12 months. In those 12 months Council had voted 140 times. In all 140 instances all voting councilors had been in 100% agreement (meaning vote tallies were either 100% AYES or 100% NOES.) I understand that our elected representatives are busy people. The amount of information received by them from the City to work through preparatory to their semi-monthly meetings is considerable. I am not sure that they have time – or the inclination – to look for and consider outside information. Redevelopment was an excellent case in point. ALL REDEVELOPMENT INFORMATION received by the sitting councilors came to them via the City and the very expensive redevelopment firm (lobbyists) who were guiding the City through the process. I seriously doubt whether our elected representatives took the trouble to do independent research on Redevelopment. In future I challenge all five City Councilors – whoever they may be – to independently research and to be open to that of other civic-minded citizens of this City who love it every bit as much as does Sarah.
