I recently received a flyer from Congressman Tom McClintock warning that a vote for Jeffrey Gerlach would be a mistake. Now I don’t know much about Mister Gerlach other than the fact that he’s running as an Independent in a district that normally supports Republicans; in fact, a district that normally supports the most extreme variety of Republicans. Even so I was curious so I opened Mr. McClintock’s flyer and read his case for not voting for Mr. Gerlach.
Of course I expected him to be accused of anything from beating his wife to robbing one of the local banks. Since I had never heard much about Mr. Gerlach I probably wouldn’t have thought about him as a serious candidate. I soon realized I had underestimated Mr. McClintock’s generous nature.
Instead of running down Mr. Gerlach, he praised him highly and gave us all a number of reasons to take him seriously as a candidate. I would ask why we shouldn’t vote for someone who supports universal healthcare as do almost all other civilized nations in the world? Why wouldn’t we vote for someone who supports comprehensive immigration reform? Finally, why wouldn’t we want to vote for someone who supports a woman’s right to choose and people’s rights to marry whomever they want?
So thank you Mr. McClintock for honestly helping us select someone who truly does reflect what the majority of Americans want in our elected representatives.
