Rebuttal to ‘Butting heads with the building dept’

EDITOR:

I must strongly disagree with the opinions expressed in the article. I have had two experiences over the last five years with the planning dept. Everyone I have been in contact with has been professional, courteous and friendly. This includes the planning, inspecters, septic, road and fire departments. They have helpfully corrected my mistakes and have led me through the process to my satisfaction. Of course I am not a “Structural Engineer” who obviously knows everything better than the yahoos in the building department. When a mistake I made was pointed out I accepted it, corrected it and moved on. Maybe that’s why I had no problems.

In conclusion, if anyone thinks the building process in El Dorado is difficult, try building in the west counties, such as Sonoma, and find out what difficult really means.

Thank you.

Building a single family dwelling in Sonoma County cost $28,479 Build the same house in Eldorado County $53,000. From my research Eldorado County has the highest permit fee in the state.
