		<description><![CDATA[Where assault rifles came from.  There were none prior to WWII, when the Germans invented a weapon whose name is too long to pronounce, and it took too much ammo to maintain.  The design was taken by a Russian, Kalashnikov, who designed the AK-47.  The reason was that Russian conscripts were mostly illiterate, and the USSR did not have the luxury of rifle marksmanship training.  While US soldiers, using the Garand M-1, could engage targets at up to 600 yards, the Soviet soldier had little training, and was expected to just aim in the general vicinity and &quot;spray and pray.&quot;  Except being Commies, they probably just sprayed.  Anyway that was the derivation.  The big difference is that an assault weapon will not overheat. The M1 could never be made into an assault weapon.  There was a smaller version, called the M1A1 carbine, which used .38 caliber, and it had a switch for single-shot and what they called automatic, but I used one in Vietnam and if you think shoot, wait awhile, shoot, wait awhile, is full automatic, think again.  You don&#039;t see any of them anymore.  A good policeman could get off two shots just in the lull between an M1A1&#039;s firings.  So anyway, when the US was going to Vietnam it was thought that we should have something like the AK-47, because jungle fighting was all close range.  The smaller caliber was selected so the soldiers could carry more ammo, and the high velocity was selected to get around the Geneva Convention.  Anyway, the resultant M-16 or AR-15 is no more a hunting rifle than my old battalion&#039;s M109 155mm Self-propelled Howitzers.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[After WWI the US had a large cache of high powered  assault rifles and pistols with not much use.  The soldiers of that war who were trained how to use and then used their weapons in combat grew an affinity for their weapons.  Many millions of the 30.06 Springfield and the Colt 1911 were sporterized and are used widely for a hundred years by gun enthusiast.  As well as the Mauser action rifle of that genre.  For over 50 years millions of servicemen have been trained and used the M-16.  It is only natural that one would want to own something that meant so much to them.  That is why I own mine today.  Some on this string have stated that because I own firearms I am mentally ill and dangerous to our society.  I would argue that many of these same people feel the same way regarding our military.  So I accept that there is different mind sets. But I must state that the Second Amendment was not established by our fore fathers to guarantee us the right to hunt.  It was the Constitutional right to bear arms against a tyrannical government.  We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.  How without the Second Amendment could we carry that out?  And if you do not believe in our Constitution and disregard it.  I must point out that 10&#039;s of millions of us have sworn an oath to defend it.]]></description>

The gun that killed the children and teachers was legitimately owned and registered to a woman who suffered no mental illness. She was herself killed by the weapon. When will the people  stand up to the  special interest groups  like the  NRA and California Gun Owners, whose  ranks are mostly filled with undisciplined, immature young males,  most of whom failed to qualify or wont interested in  military  service.]]></description>

a while back I had purchased a junior single shot combo .22-.243-20 gauge, from our local NRA dinner. Jerald, one of my employees has a young son.  so I gave that to them for Christmas. Dad recorded son opening his gift and emailed it to me.  The boy was thrilled.  The understanding of the joy father and son are going to share, hunters safety, shooting and hunts is priceless.  And honestly one of the highlights for me this Christmas.]]></description>

In my experience success comes with hard work and leadership which according to the Journal she possesses. It’s not an infatuation with her minority status, more a curiosity why a self made women with many accomplishments would be paired with such braggart like you. Your postings over a period of time have informed all that you’re, “a millionaire,” “that your life with your RV is better than yours, “to site a couple. Steers, many are millionaires, many have good lives but few of the men I know brag about it. As for the illegal weapon, my post as you very well know stated, (I inherited a never used Russian SKS semi-auto from a family member in Oregon. I just checked Midway USA (gun supplier), to see how difficult it would be to increased its fire power, what a surprise. The only information required was my address, 17.95 and I can be the owner of a 20 round detachable polymer magazine.) It was intended to be an argument in support of gun control which was obvious. The estate manger is in Oregon where from time to time I stay for extended periods. While I was at the gun shop, there was a very nice, very friendly, well-to-do looking couple in their 60&#039;s or so, picking one up as well. I had hoped while I was gone Richard would have finally addressed the fact that he owns a dreaded &quot;assault rifle&quot; (amongst other guns) and while calling for the rest of us to be disarmed, refuses to disarm himself first.  The ultimate in irony-or hypocrisy.  He is a self-professed illegal drug user; a violator of drug laws.  Yet he calls for stricter gun laws, which he then expects me to obey, while he ignores them. While I was at the gun shop, there was a very nice, very friendly, well-to-do looking couple in their 60&#8242;s or so, picking one up as well.  I had to look at them and wonder, are you &#8220;home-grown terrorists?&#8221;  &#8220;What do you NEED that gun for?&#8221;  Rich(ard)&#8217;s got me all paranoid-like now.  I had hoped while I was gone Richard would have finally addressed the fact that he owns a dreaded &#8220;assault rifle&#8221; (amongst other guns) and while calling for the rest of us to be disarmed, refuses to disarm himself first.  The ultimate in irony-or hypocrisy.  He is a self-professed illegal drug user; a violator of drug laws.  Yet he calls for stricter gun laws, which he then expects me to obey, while he ignores them. The second amendment states that the citizenry has a right to bear arms. This issue at hand is not eliminating all arms, but some types of arms, what about that cant the gun advocates understand? Any regulations that come out of this concern for new gun guidelines will be based on the degree of lethality, not all lethality. Assault rifles are offensive weapons. They are not defensive in that they are designed to inflict mass casualties. Personal defense can be accomplished with much less powerful weapons. Did you happen to notice further down in the article that theirs been a major shake-up in Jackson County, Kentucky involving the Sheriff. The county fiscal court removed the sheriff from office because of a debt of nearly $300,000, among other issues, and the County Police Department had a new force sworn in as county officials question the sheriff&#039;s handling of money. “Judge William Smith says the Sheriff&#039;s Department owes the county nearly $300,000.” The deputies stopped getting paid a month ago when the county government decided to stop lending money to the sheriff&#039;s department to cover their payroll. The county government has issued several emergency executive orders, one of them to claim the sheriff&#039;s bond, which would effectively remove him from office, and the county hopes will pay for the thousands of dollars of debt. The sheriff is still in office for now, however. all but one of his deputies are on the new county controlled police force, good luck Sheriff  as nuts as you are you, you going to need it with no retirement ……….]]></description>
