Right to bear arms

Not 10 minutes ago, I heard the pop, pop, pop, of small arms in my neighborhood. I live in Smith Flat. I believe I will fully endorse the concept of “law-abiding, responsible gun ownership” when I never hear weapons discharged every New Year’s Eve or Fourth of July again. I guarantee the idiot doing this is a card-carrying member of the NRA and feels he’s confident in his use of weaponry in a “law-abiding” way.

Whenever I hear this kind of lunacy I think back to an 8-year-old girl in San Jose, about 30 years ago, who died when some moronic gun owner fired his weapon in the air and the slug came back to Earth in this little girl’s skull. That same weekend I found a .30 caliber slug in an alley that I and my children often used to go to the store. I sold my weapons that week and have never owned one since.

Probably a good thing that you sold your weapons because your logic is way off base as is your connection to the right to bear arms and the facts you state. What you are talking about is not responsible gun ownership or handling of safe shooting or even your connection to the NRA, this reporting has nothing to do with either one. Stupid is as stupid does and that is what you should base your comments on, not an association to the NRA or gun ownership.

Have you sold your car because some people drive under the influence? Did you do a background check on whoever you sold your weapons to? Or did you sell them to some idiot who uses them on New Years eve? Just because you heard a pop, pop, pop doesn't mean anyone was firing a weapon into the air. Maybe they had a skunk in their yard or maybe they couldn't get their lawnmower to start.

Maybe what you heard was this guy shooting his daughters laptop.

It turns out that the police in Aurora had been contacted and told of the danger the theatre shooter posed to the public. The anti-Second Amendment leftists tried to keep these records sealed. Never let a crisis go to waste.

I am curious, were you concerned that your weapons were somehow involved in these bullets coming back down to earth? Does idiocy run in your family or is it just you?

Mr Pope's association of reckless gun handling with membership in the NRA ("Guarantee") tells me he knows nothing about the NRA. I am a member, have been for 20 years, and I can assure you the NRA preaches gun safety more rigorously than the auto club preaches driver safety. With that central (false) point of Mr Pope's being exposed, the rest of his entire argument carries no weight.

John, Good call selling your weapons. Do you know the person you sold your guns to? As morally offended as you are, I hope you did a back ground check before you sold your weapons to a law-abiding citizen. Or was it a moron who fires his gun in the air or the idiot pop, pop, popping off rounds in your neighborhood who happened to have the cash you wanted? Just as long as you got yours right?

Excellent letter John! Your entire letter enforces just how down right ignorant you anti firearm idiots are. I'll guarantee you are a left field liberal wacko and I haven't even met you. You have more of a chance of getting hit by lightning than getting hit by a stray bullet falling from the sky. Thanks again for the laugh. Poppty, pop, pop to you.

I know the District of Attorney in this county actually STOPPED a Lake Tahoe case against a gun owner shooting off his gun in a dense neighborhood (after repeated warnings).......... With gun ownership comes RESPONSIBILITY.... If a person shoots off a gun, that person should be RESPONSIBLE for where that bullit goes.............. How did these people walk away from common logic???.... If your 3-year-old was walking along the street and you heard gun fire.... You'd jump like a rabbit...and fune at the fool shooting....

How does Pope know that the pop, pop, pop came from a firearm and even if it did how does he know it came from an NRA member and in the slim chance if what he says is true how does he know that there was or was not a backstop and how would he know if it came from a responsible gun owner or not? Sounds like a lot of assumptions. He's acting just as credible as a Groaner in a Home Depot parking lot.

By the way I'm wondering if the John Pope is the same one who is President of the Placerville DU? I kinda doubt it.

Mr Pope your not alone: Our village idiot who regularly shoots off hundreds of rounds from a variety of semi automatic weapons on almost all comfortable weekends proudly displays his NRA sticker in the back window of his vehicle parked a dozen driveways behind DMV. He seems to have discovered that shooting his gun off in a quiet residential neighorhood is a cheaper way to show off his testosterone level than buying a red convertible and driving it fast. No doubt this guy is as seriously worried as Sheriff D’Agostini about the government coming to take away our guns; about a Democrat president and his henchmen taking away our Second Amendment rights to carry assault weapons in order to protect our homes, our loved ones, and our Constitution! Screw the NRA.

This is another Bay area transplanted invader of the county and with it comes a city mindset that has no business in the hills. Is it better to hear gang-bangers shooting it out in drive-bys? Or is that why you left? It seems about all of San Jose has moved here. Bad neighbors are around and annoy a lot of people in all manner of ways but I am certain it is better to have a neighborhood full of law abiding armed citizens then one that is disarmed being preyed on by armed criminals from Moonbeam's early released felon wealth redistribution crews.

Mr. Pope has a legitimate concern it does not take a NRA member to do stupid things. As another resident listening to backyard shooting or illegal poaching, responsible gun owners would find a target range. A stray bullet is a stray bullet. I have been a victim of a stray bullet which took out a window in my home. Any logical person would want safety first, even the NRA stresses safety first. No one knows who is out there shooting or what they are shooting at.

Mr. Pope: Amen. I also have two idiot neighbors who spend many saturday and sunday afternoons getting their rocks off by shooting. I take some consolation in knowing that they're wasting around $1 every time they fire. I wonder how many of these wannabe Rambos are on welfare and getting food stamps, aid to dependent children, etc. Should those people be allowed to buy bullets?

Moron65 has a lot of carp to post, as usual. Sure it is the same useless drivel he always has to add to the conversation.
